... here way back when. I love the story of the centuries ago Archbishop who had the palace built and lived there with his mistress and 15 children! In Search of a Fortress: I decided to attend a Mozart Concert and a dinner in the fortress for Friday evening. I gave myself lots of time to get to the Old Town, so that I could wander and explore my way to either walk up or take the Funicular (cable car). I did both actually - walked most of the way up in the afternoon, stopping ...

Took a ride down the Salzach River yesterday as well, and the boat guy showed us Hotel Sacher Salzburg (part of the famous one in Vienna), and so it goes that royalty stays there, as well as has been host to famous movie stars. The sound of multiple animated languages around me served to illustrate just how many others were seemingly doing the same thing as me. I wandered for literally hours, and finally found a lovely little out-of-the-way platz for a soujourn for lunch. When I looked it up later on the web, it is an uncommon place ...

... this tour just to experience Peter and his hilarious presentation of the Sound of Music (S0M) locations and side stories.

We saw all the SoM highlights including the church where the Von Trapps were married in Mondsee. While in Mondsee, we all had warm CRISP APPLE STRUDEL (I mean, really, we just HAD to) with a custard cream and ice-cream. Mmmm....nom-nom-nom.

Back on the bus and back to Salzburg by 6:00. We scoped out the hotel/seminary, checked ...

The land of the salt and the turnip...

... the 'land of the salt'. So for our first Austrian adventure we decided to conquer the Salzburg's fortress, the largest fortress in Central Europe and yet to be defeated. The views from the castle looked over the old city and were absolutely stunning although it has to be said it was sehr kalt. Di, you 'll be pleased to know that Rachel has now worn her buff! Again, we both got really hungry ( tends to be a bit of a trend for us) and ending up eating in this weird medieval restaurant ...
