... is not the capital. It's written in the constitution that Amsterdam is the capital. The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court are both located here, giving it an important role in world affairs. Dinner was Chinese next door to the hotel and it was chockablock full of Asian people. That is always a good sign for a great feed, which turned out spot on as it was delish. ... much to ourselves for the rest of the trip. The Mildeslot Castle was very good, I particularly enjoyed the guided tour which was given in mostly Dutch. We encountered more stairs, 83 in fact to go through the tower route, but it was well worth the climb. At about 2.30pm we got back on the boat and headed back to Ijburg. Unfortunately we left the sunscreen behind and both Amy and I got a touch of the sun ...

... in contrast to previous impressionists. Wonderful scenes of peasants and country life. Very busy museum, but we managed to move around pretty quickly and see everything on our list. We also dropped in on an interesting special exhibit showcasing Dutch ships, very cool handmade models. The Van Gogh museum (right next door) was next on our list given the grey sky and more "Canadian" weather. This museum sells out so quickly ...

... One of many niceties about trains in Europe - the train departed perfectly on the dot. We got nice seats near large windows. At its peak speed, when the train was going parallel to a freeway, you could see the cars on the freeway (going in the same direction) shooting pretty fast in the reverse direction (to give an idea of how fast our train was going!). Nowadays, prostitution is again legal and for reasons I can understand. Having it monitored helps protect the women and puts a stop to pimps (who take all the money) and sex trafficking. Police actively protect the women through the use of panic buttons and take the 'the woman is likely to be right' approach - unsure how that would work down Tranny Alley...
