Mountain Madness
The town of Shashemene is described as the crossroads of the south. It lies at the junction of four "highways" which converge from each point of the compass. It is also described as "raucous" by the Lonely Planet and "unfriendly towards tourists" by the Bradt guide.
It started off tamely enough, with a visit to a local juice bar. For 9 birr (about 50c) we scored pints of freshly blended mango juice. This was supplemented by a 4 ...
Treking in Bale Mountains, land of hobbits?
I will add more details and edit this entry after returning home. Just too much information to add on the questionable Ethiopian internet service.
Left Adama (Nazareth) on Friday, January 30th, and headed south to Aselsa. When I arrive I sit down on my pack outside the bus station to read the Bradt Guide Book, want to see some options for hotels. A few minutes later I look up and am surrounded by at least 15 ...

We are with a dodgy outfit called Abeba Tours Ethiopia and their Toyota Landcruiser is decrepit. We have two travelling doorhandles for all the ...
Work trip to Adama (Nazret)
We had asked to visit a regional office as part of our work plan. We were sent to Adama (also known as Nazret). This is a town about 2 and a half hours drive south of Addis in the East African Rift Valley so we had to set off at 7.00 am in order to get to our office meeting for 10.00 a.m. The scenery en route was quite different from the scenery north of Addis and much more like the scenes we all get on television of Africa. ...
