... to Oktoberfest, which is called Goiboden festival, and celebrates agricultural abundance. Our guide reminded described the festivities to us, which sound just like the Munich Oktoberfest. Her description was that, “ e each drink several one liter mugs of beer and dance on the tables, sing together and have a great time”. Sounds like fun!

... to see the scale of the brewery – it’s gigantic. The bottling plant alone was phenomenal, with a capacity of 120,000 bottles per hour. You got to see the historical side of the brewery as well as the new contemporary side –
essentially everything is brewed in the same way, only bigger and better with more robotics and less man power. It’s all about being more efficient and brewing more beer! I suppose ...

41 kms AM - Wow, what a morning! The exhibits in the Gäubodenmuseum in Straubing were extraordinary; the Roman objects found buried there in 1950 are amazing! Metal breastplates, knee guards, shin guards, helmets, swords, silver coins etc in perfect condition. The Romans settled here in 70 AD and called the place "Sor-viodurum". PM - The Danube trail is well signposted, we have only lost it several times, mostly entering or leaving ...

... the hotelrestaurant to have some dinner. It was simple but nicely prepared. We had a a tomato creme soup and a Wiener Schnitzel for me, trout and veal for Erwin.
Back in our room we watched Germany struggle with Ghana and went to bed. Tomorrow is going to be another long day of driving and we should be able to make it to the campground in the afternoon.

... signage only went to 231? Was this some kind of sadist trick for exhausted cyclists who, with room key in hand, have an ever increasing urgency to use the bathroom? Not at all. It was simply an error in signage engraving. Having paid for a perfectly good set of engraved brass signs the hotel owner used them, despite there being 34 rooms on level two!. Great rooms to offer the German equivalents of Mr & Mrs Jones checking in for a lunchtime ...
