Today was a public holiday (see yesterday's entry) and everything was closed except the cafés which were doing a great business. The sun was out for a lot of the day too.
The school kids were out in force again with their marching and drumming and having a great time. There were priests and lots of dignataries laying wreaths and then more marching and drumming through the lined streets. It was quite moving to see.

It seems so much easier to meet people on the road than in Vancouver. I still don't quite understand what it is about VanCity that makes people keep their distance. Robert hesitated awkwardly before inviting the Dutch to dinner. It was so nice to plan a spontaneous get-together, not having to provide two weeks' notice to ensure there are no schedule conflicts. I was there maybe an hour or so but I lost my friend so decided to actually get some sleep.
