... historical buildings, sleepy cats, art exhibitions in the street...the list goes on. However I think the real highlight of our stay here has been the food!!! Last night we went to a small cafe just down the road from our hostel. We had beef salad, a milky salmon soup and some cutlets with sour cream and rice. A truly wonderful experience, everything was simply delicious. Today as we wandered the beautiful Kremlin, we came across ...

... seats and first class having whole compartments with locking doors and showers. Seems a bit of an overkill for a 4 hour journey, so I am really glad that we didn't fork out extra for a higher class. Of course this could all change as we head into the depths of Siberia.

Neighbours were all up and out at a station stop. At the new 8:00 I dressed in the warmest clothes I had and breakfasted on Nescafé, nuts and pills. ...

... traveling from the UK to Australia overland (mainly camping where they could). Logistically there is a slight lack of ‘land’ between Asia and Australia….however you get the idea! They had been on the train for a day or so already and not speaking any Russian, were delighted to have a conversation with people other than themselves!

While we waited for the train to leave, we took out our ...

Yep, we have been gone for 7 weeks, or approx. 1/10th of the time we expect to be away.
We arrived in Nizhny yesterday, and it is HOT! Even I have resorted to a sunhat. We took the option of a cheap hostel near the railway station. The rooms are tiny, but we didn't have to carry our bags far. Yesterday afternoon we walked as far as the bridge across the River Oka, which then merges into the even larger River Volga. ...
