Saturday was a rest day and fortunately so as it rained quite heavily in the morning. We were able to stay in the cosy room provided for the campers. Best of all there was a kettle.microwave and fridge, even tea bags and real coffee available. I grid and her husband were excellent hosts and the Dutch holidaymakers were very friendly. When the rain stopped we cycled to Terheijden for another visit to Lidl ...

The mornings are definitely drawing in as this morning it seemed very dark when making the usual morning tea at 7am. On looking out of the window there was thick fog, which is the first for this year and really we have only had thick fog once before when we were going round the coast of UK, so we can't grumble. ... central city. Friday peak hour traffic in Amsterdam was kind of crazy so it took a while to back track to the hotel. AZ has not chosen the best location this time. The Mercure is kind of in the middle of nowhere. Annoying. The room is small and modest and AZ has taken out the mini bar. So lame. Marilyn arrived around 5.30pm and we headed into the city to Westerstraat to a restaurant for a catch up and ...

    62 miles (total 262.3 miles)

Later start than hoped, just ciuldnt wake up and face wet clothes and damp campsite. Rushed packin up and made a bosh of it. Sped along the dike and found the ferry - feeling good and proud amongst a group of other cyclists. Thought I saw Marie?? Big decision, up to rotterdam or east to free site. Chose east, quickly realised I'd grossly underestimated the distance. Slow progress with **** fallling off bike, brakes failing, realising i ...
