    After a week of traveling to New Sarai, we were exhausted and famished. Our supply of water was dwindling and only four or five bottles of alcohol remained but these were much stronger than the first. At night, we couldn't sleep for strange noises surrounded us, the calls of wild animals and the out of place tinkling of bells. We heard bells every night save the first.
