From Naples to Sigonella, Sicily

A travel blog entry by joshualyon on Dec 05, 2014

I was trying to catch a flight to Shannon from Sigonella NAS, so I fight an overnight ferry from the port of Naples, to the port of Catania. From there I took a cab to the NAS. The flight to Shannon was canceled, so I am doing the waiting game thing again. I need some rest, so I am staying in an actual hotel room for the night. Hopefully there is a flight tomorrow to get ...

Awoke to the lights of the Italian mainland shining through the darkness. Half an hour later our pilot had come on board and was guiding us past the 7 metre tall golden statue of the patron saint of Messina ( except I can't remember her name as it was long and Italian!) into the pier. Left on our bus at 8.30 and travelled on the autostrada which followed the coast around the mountains and over 22 bridges and through 22 tunnels! One of ...

Nicolosi to Taormina fine and Warmish

A travel blog entry by kenb on Nov 22, 2014

... Owner Fabio is a nice bloke. Pretty basic with 20 year old 12inch cathode tv and no condiments in bathroom, but clean and tidy. Used to be his home, and is actually 2 units joined together. He went to VOT once, when he was a school kid. Doesn't seem interested in going that far again. He now lives in nearby village 10 min drive away. Smallest shower ever, with 15 inch gap to enter, but through bathroom to a nice balcony ...

... a samosa with batter made from pizza flour with sparkling mineral water and beer, and filled with sliced apple and speck. Fantastic flavours. Accompanied by a local red wine with heaps fruit and cinnamon after taste. Didn't need main course but had already ordered a thin crust 4 stagoni pizza (tomato, mozzarella, spinach, mushroom and artichoke). All pizzas in this town are 36cm on a 33 cm plate- huge. I could only eat one third, and Kim managed much less than that. One to challenge ...

Licata to Nicolosi Warm sunny 21 deg

A travel blog entry by kenb on Nov 20, 2014

Cool wind in piazza for breakfast - tea, corneto, yoghurt and pastries. Left Licata around 10 and headed to Outlet Centre near Enna- about 1 1/2 hrs and 130km. Followed road along coast toward Gella- fabulous scenery over Med- then headed inland on major 2 lane highway- 100kph on road mainly built up on pylons- sometimes 100mtrs high. Good road but crazy overtaking manoeuvres. Outlet mall seemed a carbon copy of those in States in ...
