    Bumming around Palma

Spent a day wandering around Palma... The city is quite large, and so I stuck mostly to the old areas of 'tourist' interest. There are churches, a cathedral, plazas and museums all over the place, but being there on a Sunday meant that I was limited in what I could see and do. Many thinks remain lose forgave reduced hours on Sundays, something that seems to be less common in North America but still prevalent in many other places. Being that I prefer architecture over spending ...

    The Cake Route

Aptly named, this mostly flat route has the bonus of stopping at a well-known restaurant for fantastic cakes at the midpoint. I'll be honest, while it was nice to be back on the bike again, visiting the shop and seeing how much pride the creator of these goodies had with her wares... And the joy in parsing them up for people to consume was a close second. Did I mention that at 95km in length, this ...

... bathing suits, we waded in only as far as our knees. The beach is on a bay, festooned with palm trees and much like White Rock beach, only larger, more tropical and without the railroad tracks. On our bus ride to the airport, we did notice several high end resorts in Palma, But I kind of liked the kitschy area we stayed in. We'd go back there again and spend more ...

A true day off, I hooked up with three other peeps to travel the island a bit. There was an additional optional ride to Sa Colabra with some seriously crazy hills that we decided we'd see what the route was like and perhaps encourage some of the folks along. In total, the first climb was 800m, and the second was over 600m in height- I think I'll wait until next year :) That said, it was beautiful scenery and something definitely worth seeing. I'll let the photos speak ...

    Round Two

A couple hills and a coffee stop, not much to report today aside from another lovely day of riding. We passed many an almond tree, one of Mallorca's key products along with lemons, oranges and apricots. The coffee stop in Bunyola coincided with their feast day for their patron Saint Mateu. Song, dance, piñata-like activities for the kids, and a a parade through town with bagpipes for all the villagers was quite the sight, and it looked like everyone was ...
