Am I In A Third World Country?

While going from case to case at the various German hospitals, I had the opportunity to finally see what the Autobahn was all about. Yes, there is no speed limit, but it has plenty of traffic, so it didn't prove to be the speed thrill I had imagined. We did get some RPM's revving every once-in-awhile however.
<br ...

Autumn hits Germany

We were taken to the palace of the Prince-Bishop. It reminded me of a smaller version of Catherine's palace in St. Petersburg, where one room flows into the next, each one more opulent.

The temperature is in the 40's and windy. Prior to our trip all sources indicated it would be in the 50's and 60's. Oh well.

Last night there was dancing to the music of Sasha- a Bavarian born ...

Danube-Main Canal

At Bamberg we left the Danube-Main Canal. The canal was completed in 1992 and allows ships to travel from the North Sea to the Black Sea. This connection had been dreamed of since Charlemagne tried digging one in the 8th century. Another attempt was made in the 1800s but the advent of the railroad doomed it. It took 20th century technology to make it possible. The canal itself has 34 locks out of the total of ...

It is still Germany’s most visited attraction.
ROMANTIC ROAD, HOW LOVELY

... on in German, so we quietly leave the room.

We get the guides and begin the tour of the castle. The first rooms are about the war and what happened in this area. Most buildings were bombed and then fire bombed so a lot of the town was destroyed. Then it went on to describe the rebuilding of the town and then Germany as a whole. It wasn't quite what we had expected as we thought we would be seeing the rooms ...

The Residence and the wine cellar

... down into the wine cellar which is 260 years old. It was a dark tunnel under the palace lined with barrels of wine and when we came to the end two long table all set up with glasses and 400 candles burning just like old times and we sat down to a wine tasting. We tasted 3 different wines while we were told of the history and after an hour we left there to walk home to the ship as very happy little ...
