As our tour ended Al and I headed across the square to a cafe and had a crepe and a beer. I haven't had a crepe in forever - and it was delicious!! We had about 30 minutes before the organ recital. Passau's magnificent baroque St Stephen's Cathedral located on the highest point in old town. It was nearly destroyed by fire in 1662 when fire swept through the town. It was rebuilt and since 1928 has been home to the largest cathedral organ in the world. It has 17,974 organ pipes, 233 stops and four carillons. All five parts of the organ can be played at once or separately from the main keyboard.

This little city was up in the hills a little. Again, we saw a village similar to what we've been seeing. The church, and a few other buildings, however were much more magnificent. They were built more ...

    Day 5-The big swap day

A travel blog entry by mrandonian on Oct 06, 2015

We're going to do a total boat swap today with the Viking Var.

Next port on the original itinerary is Passau, Germany. However, the Danube in Passau is too shallow (by a few inches) for our boat to sail past so we are docked in Linz (Austrian side of impasse). The Viking Var is cruising in the opposite direction from ours and cannot get beyond the impasse from their location on the German side of the impasse. So ...
