Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway theviking... Katrina's, house for lunch. She was a great character. She spoke English with a different accent than Herdis actually, it was quite strange. Kind of Irish. Good to listen to. We had some laughs about recent events circulating about Herdis' long-term house guest and her behaviour at a recent party. Amusing, but not for general knowledge in case she should happen across this web page!

A story I can tell:<br ...
Stavanger, Western Fjords, Norway lingo83Another couple mad train rides from Bergen to Oslo and then over to Stavanger took us to small oil town, from where we would make our way to the beautiful lyseford. The fjord is quite deep, and we came to take the hike up to the Preikestolen, high above the fjord. The hike was great, and though we were soaked by rain upon arriving in Stavanger, it wasn't too bad during the 2 hour trek up.
Stavanger, Western Fjords, Norway fiseb... s Lillegym, out for coffee and other activities. Its been really nice meeting and getting to know her close friends here (and their kids!). As I mentioned in the Preikestolen post, an old co-worker of mine from Jacques Whitford, Steve Mossman and his wife Tracy now live in Stavanger. Steve and I worked together from 2002 to about 2005 (ish) before they moved back to Calgary. They were transferred to Stavanger last May for Tracy's work. In ...
Stavanger, Norway noradonald... even the ease of filleting by the way they feed and rear the fish and promotes their quality partly as the result of 'gentle transport to harvesting plant'. The salmon is transported live in tanks of water by boat from the various pens along the coast to a central harvesting plant, where they are allowed to swim around for three days to relax after the journey before they are harvested. The region's lamb has a unique, mild taste which is hardly recognisable as lamb by ...
Stavanger, Norway evasolo... was originally made as a cure-all. This links me personally to the brew - because Engelbrektsson's minder and fixer, a fearsome seafarer by the name of Christopher Rustung, is a distant relative of mine, who no doubt would have partaken in the brew with the ill-fated archbishop who had to flee the country during the reformation. Rustung, whose CV includes piracy in the Baltic Sea followed by many years in the service of the Danish king as trusted ...
Stavanger, Western Fjords, Norway doctorhugo... of coffee and it is only 10:30 in the morning. Yikes.... Later we were home for a couple of hours then had to go to a birthday party for the 7 year-old daughter of the family whose house we will be inhabiting while they are in Sweden on holiday until the 25th of July. More food, coffee, and dessert. Groan..... Rain off and on all day. Home and to bed 1 a.m. Day 3 - July 6 - My Birthday!!! Light rain as we eat and get ready for the day's ...
Kvernaland, Norway storbo... to the guests arriving was that our bathroom door does not lock...luckily there were no incidents! After the party, a group of us headed out to a night club. It is really popular here to head to the nightclubs around 12:30 AM on weekends. It was a very busy night in Stavanger and there were lines everywhere. We did manage to get into one nightclub, Cementen ...
Stavanger, Norway klh1... a fountain. The room itself was so cosy that we had to take photographs of it. The room even had a kettle which is absent in most hotels in Scandinavia. That night, after dinner and doing our laundry, we partied away in our room with our supply of Tom Yam flavoured Cup Noodles. It was our first taste of chili after so long. Boring CNN was repeating news of Iraq independence. I believe it was tonight when I watched the Euro 2004 match where England lost its match by a penalty shootout.
