... I am sitting with a 12 year old girl who was sexually trafficked by a 65 year old man. I only learned the details of the case through the girl the night before. So we were sitting there and I was not sure what to expect but soon the guy who was accused is escorted by police into the same court room and he was seated just two rows in front of the girl. It was so surreal. There was also another girl who is 16 and pressing charges ...
Olongapo, Luzon, Philippines karey42... feel comfortable being there. While some others would make jokes. It was interesting to see the different ways people handled the situation. I woke up this morning and still was not sure how I felt. I am always surprised to go to the clubs and see the situation first hand however I know that I have the ability to support these women. Even though it bothers me I still have hope for myself and these women. Well I think that is all for my first blog. Enjoy.

HI everyone, today we went to Arnold's house for lunch. He is one of James's work colleagues and a dear christian. James and he had a lot of fellowship during recess for a couple of days. James told me that Arnold had strong desire to pursue the Lord. James told him about Watchman Nee and gave LSM website address to him.
We met his wife, Rachel and two sons. their names are Nicorshi and ...
I do not even know where to start with this post. Daang Bago was our training site. 10 peace corps volunteers spent three months in daang bago doing language learning, cultural learning and technical skills. I was stayed with a very well off family. It was not hard for me to adjust right away because I have my own bathroom, ceilings and a quiet friendly family that allowed me to have space. I had never realized that a ceiling was a luxury until I was lucky enough ...
Balanga, Bataan, Philippines karey42... flowing conversation filled the air before the scary stories (waaa!) within our small group consumed - and frightened the hell out of me. Relaxed, totally recharged and terrified (just the scaredy cat - me) - we went back to camp to get on with the session we have already started the night before in the mountains. You guessed it! We drank the night away! To cap off that wonderful day, we posed by the fire before calling it a night.
Subic, Luzon, Philippines savealittleI always bounce with excitement every time I get to wander out and about. However, I'd like to emphasize how this trip deserves more than the regular amount of adrenaline injected to my body when I get to travel. This adventure is the fulfillment of a dream, a wish and a reason. A dream When I first saw an eagle's point of view photo of the cove, I was instantly smitten. Clear blue water, powdery white sand and pine trees. Curiosity hit me hard, so I ...
Subic, Luzon, Philippines savealittle... was fun and really something worth sharing :) Among the three islands that we visited, I'd say I had the most fun at Camara Island. The water was cold and refreshing, and the beach is clean. Too bad, this is not a good campsite where one could stay overnight because (1) the place is a bit rocky, (2) there's no one to take care of you, and (3) there's no CR or fresh water. The locals of San Antonio should ...
San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines deechie... to catch our connecting flight in Hong Kong. About a half an hour before reaching Hong Kong the pilot announced that we would be diverted to Manila, in the Philippines to upload fuel as he put it. At 4:55 we landed at a very quiet little airport and he announced that there was no room in Manila and we were at the old Clark Air Force base 20 miles from Manila. Clark was an American Air Base until 1992 when we turned it over to the Philippines after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo ...
Subic Bay, Philippines texmarq... yet covered in black grease, dirt and smog. No one bothered to check his pulse, I'm sure not even the many nursed that are trying to go abroad to make enough money to support their families. Currently even Filipino doctors, engineers, etc,.. are going back to school to get a nursing degree to go abroad to the USA or Europe. My host sister just told me that Bush signed an agreement with the Philippines accepting 4,000 more Filipino nurses into the USA this next year. The ...
Manila, Philippines arbuhl For Subic, there's definitely life after the US bases. This was what I saw when I spent a day there last summer.
Located in Zambales, the shores of Subic Bay used to be the site of one of the most beautiful and well-maintained navy bases in the Pacific. After Mt. Pinatubo's eruption in 1991, it lay buried under a foot of rain-soaked, sandy ash.
But the locals and the military ...
