We are off on holiday!!! So excited. We got a taxi to the bus station and brought one way tickets to Playa del Carmen for just £2.50 each. The journey took an hour but it was fine, the coach was very modern and even had TVs with a film playing, although it was dubbed into Spanish. We walked the short distance from the bus station to the port. …

Sun! Sand! Surf! At last, a day without liquid sunshine. Cozumel gave us our first sunny shore excursion of this leg. Cozumel is an island just off the Mexican coast with a number of Mayan ruins. Most of the Mayans on the island were wiped out, not (directly) by the Spaniards, but by smallpox which the Spaniards carried. The survivors were essentially wiped out by the Spaniards. The island was repopulated by Indians in the mid-1800s and is now mostly ...

The night was cut short when the bouncers told us that they were closing, so we made our way back to the hotel (I managed to get in again- pinche Kim,) and all of our clothes were soaking wet so the obvious choice was to continue the fiesta in the swimming pool. Three of us were in there when the ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Vista del Mar Boutique Hotel Cozumel
We spend a couple of nights at the Vista Del Mar last week, and we thought it was wonderful. We had an ocean view room, and enjoying a cup of coffee on the terrace first thing in the morning was the best. The room was charming, the bed comfortable, and the service was great. We inquired about a rental car, the young woman at the desk recommended Avis, and within about 15 minutes she had arranged for Avis to come pick us up at the hotel. If we are lucky enough to visit Cozumel again, we will certainly stay at Vista Del Mar.
Excellent staff, will go back
We loved the hotel location and decor. The staff is outstanding. I commend them all. I was there for 2 days only. I was in an accident on the 2nd day. We were to go on to another hotel for the remaining 5 days in Playa Del Carmen. After the accident, I needed to get back to the states. The lady that works the front desk was so very very helpful. She helped my son by searching on the internet to cancel my other reservations. She also looked up phone #s to help cancel flights and make new ones. She went above and beyond her duties to help. We are very pleased with the service and will go back as soon as I can travel again. I can not say enough about the great caring service I recieved.
Thank you all at Vista Del Mar from Cheryl and Damien!!
Just great - All the reviews were spot on!
In the past I have noted that you Americans have been either very harsh or over-gushing with your reviews of hotels.
In this case the previous reviews were spot on. We chose this hotel because of the good press and were not disappointed.
We arrived just after the big floods in Cozumel, 10 - 11 June 2004, and yet the staff were still very accomodating. The room was clean, well appointed, good AC and decent cable TV. We had a fridge for our own use for no charge, and the decor was nicely done, with a sea shell theme.
More importantly, the hotel is very central, you can get to all the decent restaurants, shops and dive ops. OK the Cruiseship crowd are a pain in the arse, but you're going to get this no matter where you are in downtown (bless 'em!).
Definitely well worth the money and good value.
Loved the Vista Del Mar
The Vista Del Mar was wonderful! The staff was very friendly, the location was very convenient, and we could see the ocean from our balcony! I would recommend this hotel to everyone that wants a good clean hotel with a Mexican feel.
This was our first visit to Cozumel. We liked staying in the city and had no problems with noise. We chose to upgrade to an oceanview room and felt this was well worth the extra money. We enjoyed having our breakfast everyday on our balcony (the breakfast was always delivered promptly, by the way) The hotel's staff is very helpful and friendly, and they really made the hotel stand out. We used Dive with Martin for our diving, and were very pleased with that service as well. For the diving, we were picked up each day at the Plaza Las Glorias, which is five blocks south--an easy ten minute walk. If we were in the mood for a beach we would either take a taxi or have our dive boat drop us off at a beach on the way back. We would certainly return to the Vista del Mar both for the convenience and for the great service.
Awesome hotel, cute spacious rooms, great beds, cheap
We had some trepidations about staying downtown, having stayed all over Cozumel on past trips, mostly in more expensive hotels out of town. We will only stay at the Vista del Mar from now on. The room decor is lovely, and the beds are the best we've had in Cozumel, not rock-hard nor too soft. Our room was on the back of the hotel, overlooking a nice little market that runs from 9 AM - 9 PM, but the gentle sound of our air conditioner blocked any noise and we slept til noon if we felt like it. If you want to sit by the little pool, you can run down the stairs to the Viejo Pescador and buy a couple of beers to take back to the pool, with a shot of the best tequila provided free. Our room had a king-sized bed, and a double bed for my son in a semi-private area. The owners celebrated the new year with us, with a little free reception at 6 PM, hot appetizers and champagne. Every morning you roll over and call the front desk, and in 10 minutes you receive a tray with juice, coffee, and Mexican sweet rolls. How delightful to breakfast on your patio, for free! Any problems reported by the previous reviewer re: getting your breakfast every day have clearly been resolved.
One day there was a mixup about getting our room cleaned, and they called the maid back at 8 PM, AND gave us a bottle of wine with wine glasses to apologize for the mixup. These people could not have been nicer.
During the day we walked back into town to the best dive shop on the Island, Deep Blue, and later boarded their boat 1 block from our hotel.
At night we went to Kelley's restaurant and bar for great cheap eats and drinks, and nice comraderie. This hotel + dive shop + restaurant provided a great trinity to make our trip awesome. If you don't like the cruise ship crowds, as we don't, you can easily avoid them by walking back into the city 1 block; the cruise ships tell people the city may not be safe, but that's rubbish, there is no dangerous neighborhood on this island.
Remember: the hot water is marked "C" for caliente. And please observe the island's request that you not put toilet paper in the toilets, their waste disposal system can't handle it. (Yes, you should be observing this at the more posh hotels, but they won't request it.)
We came upon this little hotel via friends living in Cozumel--what a find! They have an excellent rate for airline employees!
Ask for a room on the street side--there was little noise to bother us, the view and balcony great! They did not have the promised bread for breakfast and offered no substitute, but did bring coffee and juice. On our second stay, we got nothing at all for breakfast, so be sure to ask about it when you check in.
The a/c may not seem sufficient, but when left on it will catch up, and the room is very cold. Good location; there is a Domino's pizza out the door, to the right, in the next block, on the side street--fun to get a pizza and get in the grande 'hot tub/pool" on the back patio and eat.
Very nice staff. be sure to be there before 10pm to check in--we had said we'd arrive late and just caught Laura, the night clerk, leaving at 10:45--we had specified that we'd be there after 11, and they said "no problemo". She had not been informed of our late arrival, but could not have been Nicer and more accomodating at that late hour!
This is a small place to enjoy with out the large hotel crowds.
Awesome Property in Downtown Cozumel
I've being coming to Cozumel for many, many years, and knew the Vista del Mar, but this year the owner actually changed completely into a Small Boutique Hotel full of nice decor and small simple beautiful dedcoration. We loved the hotel as well as the staff that made our stay much much better in Cozumel downtown. Very nice & we recommend it for your next trips to Cozumel Island.
Great renovation jOb
Have stayed at this edge of downtown very clean and well kept area hotel on many ocassions both pre and post renovation. The changes are all very positive from both the remodeling of the rooms, conveniences in the rooms: i.e. good cable TV, quick & timely morning in-the- room breakfast service and attentive hotel management and staff personnel. Big savings on hotels further south of town on taxi expenses also makes this hotel an excellent choice. As several rooms face the Cozumel's main street, noise doing busy times of day can be somewhat disconcertaining.
Great little hotel
Vista Del Mar is a great little hotel. Located downtown on the main drag just a short walk from the plaza. ( two minuets ) Two pools and ocean views, the extra large and very clean rooms make up for the lack of a beach. I'm an airline employee and almost always stay here, for the money it's a great deal
