Impaling to dog naming... Our Romania adventure

... line). Paul pointed us
in the right direction if we wanted to go check out the castle in Bran
(in case you've forgotten, that's Vlad's castle) and after some lengthy
discussion we hoped on a bus heading for Bran. We arrived in Bran
sometime around 8am and found out the castle didn't open till noon.
With nothing else to do, Derek and I scouted around the castle trying
to find some way over the 10 foot fence for keeping people like us out.
We ...

Walking in Brasov on a rainy day

... restaurant 50 m away from the hotel and Sergiana - a Romanian restaurant this time - over here at dinner time you can assist live traditional music and folk dances. We checked for handicrafts and souvenir shops, for supemarkets and farmacy... and now it seems that everyone is eager to take the historical tour of the city we have tomorrow morning.. the classical city tour. Later, tough, we have the really interesting ...

... but i have never been liked this much just because i am from Turkey. A few other people i met were the same way, one of them even spoke Turkish. We partied till morning, drank a lot and again talked about stupid stuff like is a genius a genius only when he succeeds, why it is easier for beautiful people to gain trust, why i am a realist,James is an idealist and Jason is a politically correct ********, and why Welshmen shag sheeps on the cliff top. (Because they push back harder.)

Throwing our to-do list out the window

... Along with homemade crepes and homemade marmalade jam and homebaked baguette, all the while wearing a beatnik outfit and saying flambouyant things like "oohlala!" Just kidding, Romain is definitely not flambouyant, nor is he provincial. I don't even know what a typical French person looks or acts like, but if Romain is just that, I wouldn't mind at all spending some time in France next summer instead of London.

... we'll have another match. They all love taking photos so much, so today I took in some cardboard photo frames, paint, stamps, glitter and wrapping paper to cut up to decorate them. Then we'll get them to dress up a bit and they can take photos of eachother which i'll print out and put in the frames later this week. We'll have to do that tomorrow though, because with starting school they had all sorts of things to do today. Some were out shopping... and some went potato ...

... larger city in the region. It was a beautiful little city, stayed in a cheap communist-style hotel and watched crazy Romanian TV in my room. Went to see an old Saxon fortress in the next town and visited a friend of a friend in Prague who runs eco-tours in Romania and has turned her office into a lovely replica of a traditional Romanian home. I know where I got my coloring now, all the Romanians look quite mediteranean and every little old lady on the street looked like my ...

Brasov and Bran (the castle not the flakes)

... hair color here. It seems like most people do their own dye jobs and must have poor eyesight or bad lighting in their houses. Of course you have the typical blue haired (and even purplish hair) old ladies that are pretty standard in the US, which could easily happen from picking out the wrong shade at the store, not mixing the chemicals properly, or leaving it on too long. But what is really strange is the large number of women in their 20s and 30s with really off-colors - red that ...

'Dracula's castle??!'

... tell us? Border crossings are ALWAYS interesting no matter where you are. No blue Danube seen here at the Giurgiu/Ruse crossing - quite wide and very high - major spring runoff so muddy looking. Number of side channels going into the Danube Delta east of here where bird watching is supposed to be fantastic. All done by boat from what we gather. Leaving Transylvania, knowing we would return ....(in 7 days actually), Romania certainly had a hold on us.
