Lake Mead to Mesquite

A travel blog entry by kookamal

... are just not enough places in between to stock up on more. So I figured out 2 scenarios how to replenish ice cold water: You gotta approach those friendly people in their oversized motor homes. I mean these guys got it all. You can find them in rest areas or if you are really desperate ( which I was already) you stop your bike at a more or less scenic spot and pretend to take pictures. It usually doesnt take long before one of those friendly chaps stops as well. ...

I spent a day recuperating in Tuscayan and then headed for Little Finland in Nevada. It's a little known location with some interesting rock formations on BLM land. I had a couple different sets of directions. Between the two of them ...

... us about 200 yards to a safe harbor. We secured the plane and made our bed in the back of the airplane. The sky is clear and full of stars. It was a very cold night. I had everything in my suitcase on me. We also plastered ourselves with "hotties". That’s not me folks, it’s those hand warmers that heat up. I think I slept 10 minutes. Morning arrives with a ...

    Love Mesquite!

    from karoleigh

The rooms at the Virgin River Hotel are inexpensive and reasonably clean. I enjoyed playing the machines in the casino. I recommend the hotel. I enjoy the town, too. It is nice and laid-back, a quiet escape from Las Vegas.

    Construction, Rude front desk, Noisy

    from anonymous

We have generally liked the virgin river, but our most recent trip, made us feel that we would have done better to go elsewhere. They are doing some resurfacing of their parking areas, which means loud cement trucks and workers at 6 am, complete with piecing sirens. Rude front desk personal and loud old air conditioning units that make sleeping difficult. Indeed the floor in our room vibrated in certain areas due to airconditioning in the building. It was cheap but we got what we paid for.

We have been stopping at Mesquite for many years dating back to when the Oasis was just a small truck stop. As it enlarged, we started staying there as it was the "only game" in town. Then when the Virgin River opened, we started staying there. It has a more laid-back atmosphere, good restauant and buffet, bingo, and many more amenities. Now, we never go into the overcrowded Las Vegas. We enjoy all the casinos in Mesquite and love staying at the Virgin River! Recommend the place to anyone! Jim and Gail Thompson

    Love The area !!

    from anonymous

We have stayed there several times & always enjoyed the area very much.

    Not a bad stay ever...

My wife and I make many trips to Las vegas a year. We fly and on occasion drive. when we drive we always make it a point to stay or stop in Mesquite at the virgin river inn. We have the most fun there and are frequently comped our meals via points, they add up fast. We also stop at the Casa Blanca (the class casino of Mesquite). My only bad experience was at the Oasis where I found the people to be rude and to have that small town attitude with comments like(if you don't like it here go accross the street we own that to) I give the V.R.I. and the Casa Blanca the thumbs up...

Love it,go 4 or more times a year and love the free rooms

    from anonymous

I go to the virgin river 4 or 5 times a year and have plans for may, I hope to have a free room sent to me for may as they get my action and my wifes and in the long run they make out okay. I have had good times there and have found the help very nice. I especially love the early breakfast as being from the east I get up still on eastern time . The rooms are very nice and the help that cleans them does a very good job. I also love the coffeemakers in the rooms. I give the casino a good rating to anyone i come in contact with. I love the sports bet parlor as that is where i spend a lot of my time.. Thanking You Ken

We always stop at Virgin river!

    from anonymous

We have stayed here several times in the last 5-years and have always had a clean and comfortable room. My husband enjoyed the gaming lessons on their channel and we enjoy eating at the Buffet. It is not the Mirage, but then you are paying a very small amount for this room. As long as it is clean, who cares...and how long are you in the room anyway? It is like being in old Las Vegas, and the staff has always been very friendly. We enjoy Mesquite.

    Love the Virgin River

    from anonymous

I love the Virgin River. It's a great place to stay. No complaints. Am coming up for Xmas.

    Shocked

    from anonymous

We have stayed at the Virgin River a few times and have always had a good stay.

The Rooms we have stayed in have been clean and we have never found any kind of bugs. We never have stayed in a pet room, so maybe they are not quite as clean. The reason we stopped staying there is the fact that they don't have remote control TV's, and that is a big thing to my Husband.

We always eat in their coffee shop no matter where we are staying as we find there food excellant and the service great.

    Go somewhere else!!

    from anonymous

We stayed there on 10/4/02, with our 2 small dogs. We stayed in the pet building so I don't know how the rest of the buildings are but here is our experience. We first noticed that one of the queen beds was sunken and squeeked when you sat down on it. Then we noticed hairs on the "supposedly" clean sheets on both beds. Both chairs in the room were visibly stained. Plus the don't have remotes for the TVs. We were offered another room, but it did not look much better and we were tired from a long day of driving, so we just stayed put. Fortunately, my wife brought along extra sheets. While I was out walking the dogs, my wife found 2 roaches in the room. We slept with the light on and in our clothes. Found a third roach in the bathroom in the morning. The hotel's excuse is that they sometimes have problems with roaches after it rains. Thank goodness, Mesquite doesn't get a lot of rain. We left as soon as the sun came up. The only good thing, was that they "comped" the room. I wonder why??
