... We join the throng filing around the tomb. It is a simple stone sarcophagus set in on open column with a simple iron grate above and below it set on a modest pile of concreted rocks. We decided to revisit Orvieto, leaving much earlier, to allow quality time "browsing-shopping".
The "old city" is situated high up on the hill overlooking the newer city.
You access the "old city" by way of the Funicolare .... This is by far the easiest and quickest route as parking is scarce up in the old city....this is much more fun too!

... best pasta. After our meal I joined the group walking up to St. Francis' hermitage. I spent some time up there and walked around through the woods before heading back down to town. I made it in just as it started to get dark and walked around some of the little shops before they close. It's been such a long day that I opted for a shower and nap before dinner. As luck would have it, just outside the hairdressers, there is a plague erected on the wall, commemorating "Panicale's fallen" during First and Second World Wars
When the officials arrived they all gathered in front of this plague, right outside the hairdresser's!
Of course, we couldn't understand the words but certainly ...
... but just as beautiful. The old part of the city is welcoming, with magically views for miles and miles across the Umbrian country side. We popped in for a quick bite and ended up in an Irish Pub - really made our day. We were actually walking through clouds at one point (which I guess was a change from our last three or so weeks of walking 'on clouds' - as daily we had to pinch ourselves that this was real).
