J keen for the inevitable pizza, so we decide to avoid the tourists & head off on our own. Found a market just clearing away, & checked a couple of restaurants before finding the ideal one! Pizzas were 4 euros! Not a tourist in sight either. Delicious pizzas too..

After we left Pitigliano we headed west to check out Orvieto. Just as we were approaching the town we came upon a lookout where we could see the town sitting up on the hill. Breathtaking view. Although not technically in Tuscany it is a classic example of a hill town.

... of course wonderful and after our class that morning we had a new found appreciation for Italian cuisine since we were a bit more in tune to the special attention paid to the ingredients. Our favorite part of that meal was definitely the fried zucchini blossoms that were served with fried sage leaves. We just happened to order them to try something as an appetizer and they turned out to be incredible. A real fall/winter treat and an excellent start to a great meal.
