Travel Blogs from Port El Kantaoui
Arriving home after a holiday always produces a bittersweet feeling in me, on one hand I'm sad to leave the places and people you get to know over your journey, and the trips never are long enough to experience everything you would like to. But on the other hand it is also a relief, especially after a long and tiresome trip home, as I have just …
Following on from the previous year's week-long stay in Marrakech, the man-made resort town of Port El Kantaoui in Tunisia seemed like a suitable enough destination to 'compare and contrast', and although this place lacked the distinctly unique feel of Marrakech, it did seem as if the tourist infrastructure was firmly in place. Oddly enough, this …

The craftsmen & artists of the area were famous throughout the Roman Empire. Apparently only the Bardo museum in Tunis has as good works. Our guide then led us through the old quarter back to our hotel in Sousse. Still no sense re the AC so we slept with the balcony door open & were visited by the mosquitoes much to Dick's ...

The next day we went on a caravan trip on dromedaries, because there are no camels in nothern afrika. Camels only live in Asia. we learned something new as well. :-)
The week went by way too fast, but it was really nice and I learned my first word in arabic:

Historical Traveler Reviews Vincci Resort Kantaoui Center Port El Kantaoui
Just returned from a one week stay at this hotel and could not find any fault with the service or the staff and quite frankly could not understand the unfair and derogatory comments made by previous visiters. My wife and i have trevelled to Asia, America, europe, and to be honest the worst service we have encoutered is in the u/k. The food was not always to my liking, this was down to my taste and not the quality as this was very high (my wife enjoyed every meal)The staff where frendly and would always return a smile. The beach was only a short walk and at this time of year no problems with loungers, the weather was sunny and warm enough for even my wife to go swimming. The only down side to this holiday was that there was very little to do in the evenings not just in the hotel but in the resort itself. The tunisian people are so friendly and welcoming they would always ask you to come into the shops to look around and always respected the words NO THANK YOU with a friendly smile at no time did we feel intimidated even by the youth who seemed to have more respect for older people.
We had a reasonable stay at this hotel which has some very good points but a few minor, bad ones. The staff were quick and efficient at getting us booked in to our rooms. We found the room of a good size (2 adults and 2 children) but the facilities for self catering were basic to say the least. This was not a major issue as we wanted to sample the local cuisine but it would have been nice to have a kettle.
I've been in this hotel and I dodn't regret it for a second. It was very nice, clean en the employees were very kind. We booked on Half-Pension basis and the food was also great, with a lot of choice. I cann't believe some of te reviews I have been reading on Tripadviser.
We just returned from a week's stay in this hotel. Upon arrival we were impressed with the layout of the hotel. It could do with more lights in the corridors throughout. Check-in was swift and we were shown immediately to our rooms which were supplied as described in the brochure. The airconditioning was working and kept the room cool.
Have just arrived back from our holiday and all I can say is that I was not disappointed! Had a great holiday! The weather when we arrived was not to good but after the first day the weather just got better! When I booked this holiday I went on trip advisor and was quite put off by the reviews so much so that we went back to our travel agent! but in the end we decided to grin and bare it! all I can say is don't be put off by these reviews u will have a lovely time at this hotel, lots of things to do!! They were great with our 3 year old!! she was spolt rotten by the locals. There is great places to eat out, go for coffees, relax. The trips on offer are good value for money too, the camel ride in particular was my daughters favourite (and mine). There is water sports to do down at the beach, which is a 5 min walk away, jet skiing, para-gliding and more.
I have just come back from a week's holiday in Tunisia, staying at Hotel Vincci, Port El Kantaoui, from 3 April - 10 April 2005. I only booked the trip the Thursday before I left on the Sunday. It was only after I booked that I read the reviews on trip advisor, which was when I got nervous! but I didn't need to be. I found the hotel extremely clean, bed linen and towels changed every day. I was on holiday on my own but that wasn't a problem, and I was having breakfast and dinner. The choice of food was really good, I'm vegetarian and diabetic, but I did not go hungry or bored with the food, different choices every day, breakfast as well. The waiters were very good at suggesting half bottles or bottles of wine, rather than just one glass. The price of these ranged from 8 dinars 800 mls (4 pounds, 40 pence) to 9.50 dinars - the receipts never seemed to have the correct room number on - but as I never signed anything and paid straight away that was not my problem.
Recently I stayed at the Vincci Hotel in Port el Kantaoui. After booking my holiday I found this website and was horrified by some of the reviews to the point that I contacted the hotel directly twice (!) to be reassured. Luckily we were allocated a great apartment with a sea view and I must say that contrary to all the negative comments that I read we all had a very good time. The hotel is extremely well located, only minutes away from the beach and the marina and believe me with children (8 and 6) is quiet an important point!
Have just returned from a week at Vincci Resort in the lovely Port El Kantaoui. Fantastic family holiday. Didn't eat in the hotel as we were SC but loads of wonderful restaurants (both upmarket and cafe style) in the Marina area of the resort which is approx 6 mins walk away. Weather was really nice, quite chilly at night and a little windy somedays, but we have all returned with a tan and didn't have to work too hard to achieve. PLEASE DON'T BE PUT OFF THIS HOTEL BY SOME OF THE OTHER REPORTS. IT REALLY WAS EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY.... we'll definitely return. PS. the local people are so friendly, much nicer than Sousse which we visited on the Noddy Train (20 mins ride), felt quite threatened and got ripped off in a cafe - £20 for coffee, beer, 2 cokes!!!
First I endorse the previous review of this hotel. Dropped off late at night I now realise why the Rep did not come into the hotel to see guests check in, as they normally do. We would have been back on the coach to another hotel or going back home. There was a damp fusty smell as soon as we came through the door and reception staff were only there to follow check in procedures not to welcome. One of the maintainance staff was told to take our cases to the room as there were no other staff there. Our room was a self catering suit with cooking smells from other rooms wafting through. Diningroom staff were not help full at break fast. We demanded a transfer to a 4* hotel with some reluctance the rep did arrange a transfer. After the intial shock we thoroughly enjoyed our Tunisian Holiday even the worst weather for 27 years was more bareable than the Vincci Hotel.
We recently stayed here over new year and the service was the worst of any hotel I have ever stayed in!!! The reception staff are extremely rude and will not help you in any way whatsoever. There is a cash machine in the hotel reception which ate my cash card in the first few days. I was told they would help me, then they wouldn't help me, then they would, then it was my fault for having a bad card, then it was the bank's fault! After 5 days trying to make some sense of it all and travelling back and forth to Sousse (after being told the bank had my card which they didn't!) I decided to cancel the card at reception...and was charged 40 dinars for the call!! No apology was ever given and I was told it was my own fault for putting the card in the cash machine in the first place.
