      Desolate edge

... further up there were some more major coast roads so my route was an easy choice. It was stunning scenery most of the way, I drove past Gibraltar, I drove on a coast road that went through towns and virtually empty seaside resorts I'd never heard of, small places waiting for the summer. By the time the sun started to set I was between Malaga and Almeria and although I was now on a more major road ...

... the storm last night! So, you see I wasn't over exaggerating at all. It really was the bad!! Today I drive through some horrendous floods, again grateful for the super chunky tires that meant faithful Lily took it all in her stride again. I couldn't have been prouder of her today as she battled through raging storms and raging rivers across the road. I'm now stopped in almerimar and tucked up in an English bar with a coffee and wifi! ... any other options, so we stuck the engine on and the sails out and, with 20 knots behind us, made excellent speed to Almerimar, a strange little town populated almost exclusively by non-Spaniards.

We decided to stay for a few days, as they were offering very good deals (hoping to persuade us to spend winter there) and we felt in need of a bit of a break. There ...

We did our own walking tour today in Almeria, Spain which consisted of touring the Alcazaba fortress which is one of the biggest fortresses ever built by the Arabs in Spain. We walked the downtown and harbour areas returning to the ship for sail-away at 4:00 pm. +30 again today so tried to soak it all up!
