    ... but also the old town, within the castle walls, which is a maze of small streets, lined with tapas bars.

    I am not sure how authentic this is.

    I would think if the place was like this in the castle's hey-day, the defenders would have been permenantly too drunk and full of food, to do any defending! ...

    I got lost in Amposta which resulted in us taking a more or less U shaped route into and out of the town but at the second attempt we found signs to Sant Carles de la Rapita which was close to El Poblenou del Delta.
