... Our hotel in Rome was really good. It was called hotel Julia and it wasn't fancy, but it was clean and the location was amazing. We also got breakfast every morning which was decent - again, nothing fancy but it was good. Croissants, ham, cheese, some cereals yogurt and fruit. Mmm. So good. The bus ride into sorrento was really pretty. We went through some farmland and vineyards which was nice. In sorrento its citrus trees ...
... in my entire life! It was sooooooo good, the pizza dough and base was to die for and they had used buffalo mozzarella which made it mouthwatering. Unfortunately, it was so huge though so I couldn't finish it but I ate the majority.
We got back to our hotel room at around 10:30pm and headed straight to bed. Tomorrow is our last day in Naples before heading back that night. Been a fabulous weekend but can't wait to get home and rest a bit.
... Bern had bought a commemorative medal made for the 500th anniversary of the Swiss guards protecting the Pope at the Vatican. There were only 5000 of these made, so it is very special :). I have included a picture of this in this post. Driving south we saw the Abbey of St Benedict and further south we saw Mt Vesuvius in the distance before turning off the motorway and winding our way down to the Bay of Naples. Gorgeous ...
... due to further excavation. It was a hot day so it was tiring walking around and we unfortunately didn't get a chance to see everything. One thing that did impress us were the cobble-stone streets with the deep wheel ruts and large stepping stones for pedestrian crossings. Liam liked seeing the dead people! Through the audio tour, you did get a sense of how it may have been living there.

Pompeii is not far from Mount Vesuvius, a large volcano. In 79AD Mount Vesuvius erupted and covered Pompeii in 4-6m of ash. The city was then lost for 1,500 years, simply disappeared, with no one realising it was gone. The initial rediscovery was in 1599, but substantially more in 1748 ...
