... Steve Pavlidis' guide about when a preacher was conducting a service and spied a ship on the reef. His flock had their back to the sea and couldn't see the windfall. The preacher asked the congregation to bow their heads in silent prayer and after a few minutes a few of the members started raising their heads and noticed the preacher was nowhere ...
MARSH HARBOR, Bahamas takinbetz... and some look to be very, very old although there are no dates on the houses. A couple of the older looking ones, including the public library, used shutters in the place of windows. I love the bright red door on this blue house. The buildings were all pastel colors. There is a Junior Sailing Club on the island and the bulletin board was full of ...
MARSH HARBOR, Bahamas takinbetz... and Grouper at Charlie's. Dave and I are in dispute as to where the best cracked conch is - he thinks Lorraine's in Black Point has the best and I loved it too, but also liked the cracked conch at Potters Cay. Either way - I'd go back to those two places for more cracked conch! Last spring in the Keys we were on a quest for the perfect key lime pie - eating it in every restaurant we came to. This year we seem to ...
MARSH HARBOR, Bahamas takinbetz... twist an ankle by stepping into a hole or fall and cut yourself on this jagged limestone. Hiking shoes are recommended......we wore our crocks ...... so it felt like I was hiking in my bedroom slippers! Met a woman in Nassau who had been hiking here, slipped and fell and cut the top of our foot. She didn't seek medical attention (like where??) and it got infected so they ended up in Staniel at the clinic where she ...
WADERICK WELLS CAY, Bahamas takinbetz... free mooring. Individuals can volunteer as you go - a day's worth of volunteering gives you a free night mooring. Moorings are $15 a night. I'm amazed at how knowledgeable the hosts are. For many this is an annual thing - they come down every fall and spend the winters in the Exumas volunteering at the park. The hosts at Cambridge are Rick and Eliena (and dog Ginger) on S ...
CAMBRIDGE CAY, Bahamas takinbetz... port-side bench. Meanwhile as this is happening, my legs, of course, are bent upward and I could get no purchase whatsoever. So, on the cockpit floor was the cushion, the sport-a-seat, and a crumpled Admiral trying to regain her footing. Capn Dave had enough to do managing the boat, so he just looked down at me over the binnacle and asked - "Are you OK?"....Sure.....my suntan will even out the bruises on my face - it'll be fine. ...and how was ...
Chub, Bahamas takinbetz... Memory Rock further north than us and they soon disappeared over the horizon on a deverging course. We were only making 5 knots under motor crossing the Gulf Stream but soon the wind piped up from the south at about 8 knots so we unfrurled the genoa and did some Canadian sailing (motor sailed.) It worked well and we touched 8 knots even as the swell got higher. We were soon out of sight of everything. The sea was gin clear and ...
West End, Florida, Bahamas darbornMust say - I loved it here. It is a small privately owned island and it is gorgeous. A beautiful beach with cabanas (you can even get butler service), beach chairs, showers, water activities etc. We spent the whole day in the sun and enjoyed a grilled lunch. Went for a long walk along the beach and swam in the crystal clear water. Could have spent another couple days here!
Half Moon Cay, Bahamas lvertoch1... all kings, from see horses, colorful jelly fish in a huge aquarium, and giant fish to sharks. It is definitely something not to be missed when coming to the paradise island. I do remember one of the guys that waited only to the moment he could spend some dollars in the hotels slot machines, after all someone must pay for this astonishing marine... The next day we spend on remarkable see resort in the Ocean Club. The visibility of the water was ...
Paradise island, Bahamas tomer777... rain. A lot. We both got soaked before we found a bus to take us into the centre and then we managed to get a taxi back from there. We still don't know whether our booked taxi ever arrived at the zoo! We spent a bit of time just lazing on the beaches or by the pool, catching up on reading and resting. There are a few sights to see, but it's really a destination for those people looking for a beach holiday and a good rest. And we certainly did that.
