To se mi manjka. Vsaj komarjev ni bilo:)
Puerto Cortes, Honduras leskovar... they were telling the story of how the garifuna got onto the mainland from roatan. Next day we head out to the botanic gardens that united fruit used as a research station and spent a very pleasent hour with a guide who very patiently repeated what each plant was about three times untill be fully understood it. With tela done we are of the capital for the night before heading into niguragua.
Tela, Honduras sainty1... let us right back in and gave us stamps to avoid any overstay fees. Sure, we still had to get back to Costa Rica to "abandon the region" and then come back in again, but we got out of huge fines and the overstay fee we were initially happy to pay. Banditos that we are. Lesson learned: never overstay a visa, especially when you don't feel like spending 2 worthless days riding back and forth in hot, cramped buses. Onward and ...
Tela, Honduras silvergirl10... between Copan Ruinas and La Ceiba that was raved about by the lonely planet for great beaches. Tela's bus stop consisted of a gas station on the side of a dusty highway. The 15 minute walk into town was hot and sweaty and it turned out the destination was not really worth the effort. But, we didn't know that at the time, so we ...
Tela, Honduras ellisa_5... so i´ll just give you the highlights. On tuesday I got very muddy and very bitten clambering through the mangroves to collect crabs to the iguans to eat. I went in my walking boots, which provided little protection as i consistently kept sinking knee deep in the mud. I decieded I hadn´t had enough of the mangroves so went to a different location on the island to do what is know in the business as a ´transect´. This involved walking through the ...
Tela, Honduras hanscottclaire... in fact it was a bus company strike. Strange enough, it wasnt the employees of the bus company that were striking, it was the owners. They owners had trucks blocking the roads to their own buses. So we had to go a different, longer way. On the way, I met a nice guy, Derek, and we ended up taking a taxi from the bus station to the same hotel (different rooms, of course).
Tela, Honduras travelbee... despite the rain. First there were only 4 girls and the girls of the village AND the Heat girls were cautious and intimidated of each other. Slowly, the tension was alleviated, more grls of Triunfo showed up to the field, and by the end, about 18 local girls were playing happily with Sophie. They even thanked us and will return tomorrow. We had a very large number of boys come o the field, some of whom are not involved in the ANEDH project , and they were ...
Tela, Honduras yoomster... also got really excited about the transportation in El Salvador. The buses are like a little piece of heaven on earth. They take old American school buses, paint them bright neon colors and with phsychadelic (spelling) designs, then plaster ever square inch on the inside with Jesus and surfing stickers. Now add a couple of huge speakers playing either 1980s US rock ballods or Bob Marley and around 150 sweaty locals. Every ride was a party! In ...
Puerto Cortes, Honduras wolfeac... called Guifuti (herb-infused rum, yum!), and somehow we ended up back on the canoe in the moonlight for an epic long paddle around the canals and all the way to the Laguna. It was beautiful and mysterious, but kind of tense since I was sitting uncomfortably on the middle rung, Gus was getting attacked by sand flies (those little *******s! Have I mentioned how much I hate sand flies?), and I was spending most of my energy conversing in ...
Miami, Honduras michaelaso early in the morning, around 8 ish we got a taxi to the dock for the ferry to utila, the terrential rain had continued all night and was just as heavy the next morning, we got there bought tickets, waited then boarded the boat, i say boat but it was more like the roof of a van turned upside down with a tent over the top!!! so off we set, met a couple of guys on the "boat" that were working on the island and they said i would be rough, i assumed it would be fine or we wouldnt set ...
