Mexico de nuevo

... allowed to use the family’s kitchen and cook our own meals. We were so happy of just having our old lovely habit back. For 4 days we went to the beach in the morning, Jason surfing, me running, then coffee and swimming in the pool of our friends’s hotel, taking a nap, going for a walk, having dinner and go to sleep. What a day! At the end of the week Jason’s parents get here and we move back to the beach La Saladita. Super happy of finally being all together to ...

Vive Mexico!

Its been about three weeks since Tracy and I got to Zihuatanejo (see wah tah
NAY ho), which is in the Mexican state of Guerrero. We picked this town solely based on what we saw online as far as: population (not too big or too small), access to many different beaches, and the potential for lots of restaurants to choose from.

Zihuatanejo, or "Zihua" as the locals call it, is a fairly new city. There are no giant cathedrals or colonial buildings like you would find in Mexico ...

If you need proof of creation, go to the BEACH!

... so meticulously placed! I couldn't help but think about how it all works. The waves would come in, each time to a different depth on the beach, then the water would recede as the next wave came in. We were warned not to go out to far, or the undertoe would sweep you under. Meanwhile, the sun is setting behind the hotels, and creating a glow reflecting on the sand, putting all the people in a silhouette. All of it happened ...

Heighten Military Presence but Beautiful Beaches

... be a good place to go if you wanted an all inclusive, stress free vacation with beautiful beaches and hotels.

Before we arrived in Ixtapa we were pulled over by two military check points. These areas are usually heavily armed with at least 10- 20 soldiers guarding the area. We passed many in the last couple weeks but we are both expecting that this time we were pulled over because Christina was driving ...

The town those Shawshank fellas escaped too

... had a kick ass arcade for the kids. Go figure. Helen and I had a great dinner way a top the bay one night and dinner in the downtown area another night. We had this great bay access path below our hotel that gave us a thirty minute walk to town and made a great jogging path in the morning. I even gave the surf a try right in front of our hotel in the bay but was way to close to the rocks for me. This little local nut on a surf board would ride waves right into the rocks.

Zihuatanejo - The Yang Next Door to Ixtapa

... 2,400 a month (ouch!) and rented a lesser house in Zihuatanejo for $2,700 (double ouch!!). She came here for the warmer weather, which illustrates that you can't beat the weather on the Pacific Coast in the winter months, unless it is on the Caribbean Coast and I am not so sure about that. Certainly in the central highlands (San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, etc.) evening temperatures fall to where indoor heating would be appreciated.

The ...

Don't stay at Departamentos Evaro + more trash

... that need to pass. After letting passing a few, Jason and Anita got real upset and told people that it was a line, we were waiting too and they had to stand at the end of the line. The families got real upset and as we were the only "white" people as they like to call foreigners, I was getting worried to upset the Mexicans. Even when we spoke up there was nobody supporting us, even those who got passed themselves. So I thought it really doesn't make much sense saying anything ...

Back at the coast

... I have my first exposure to the wild mosquitoes! About thirty in a few minutes, bam! We get back to our tent and suddenly I feel something moving under my foot underneath the tent's ground. I scream out loud and everybody comes running, what is it? Crabs! Everybody starts laughing, they are our friends! Ok, gotcha, so I just made some new friends. We end our day with a nice walk alongside the beach and sleep well in our new home. Our second day started off with me cleaning the ...

Yes we are still alive!

... not be fed up with the US just yet. We wouldn´t mind having a little place in Mexico to escape to every once and while though. After Sayulita we drove to Puerto Vallarta where we spent way too much money on a couple of drinks at the marina, although had one of the giant hotels not been in the way we would have had a view of the sunset that was priceless. We took a swim in the overpriced RV park which was a nice change from the salt water, and after stocking up some groceries the ...
