Tamarindo, Tamagringo, Tama-fun-o

... very calm, just mind the rocks. This turned out to be a very special day for Farrah and I, as we got to witness some bonified sex on the beach, and not the drink. I´ll spare you the details, because trust me you want to be spared, but I will say that it was not a pretty sight and I´m sure I´ll be seeing that image pop up in my head for years to come, lucky me. Ick.

Anyways, we planned on dressing up as cats for Halloween and had all the supplies to make our ears but hadn´t ...

Blood in the Water- The Unforgiving Beach

... light and some water..lol...the Mens bathroom is just a concrete wall with a trough, behind a truck, where as the ladies have a room with a door, so we put some napkins on it, it didn't look too bad but it had to hurt, he stopped the bleeding and the night continued. We did some canadian game that Im supposed to bring to the states, per Dave, called Pace Car, and he makes the huge mistake of stating he has never been beat, this is not a statement I take lightly, I give him a ...

Learning to surf in Playa Tamarindo

... Latin American cities. Me and Juliette even tried to learn to surf on Christmas Day, now this was an experience that's worth bragging about. A visit to the nearby beach, Playa Grande, ($1 by boat to cross the river to the north of Tamarindo), was another great trip. Playa Grande is nearly deserted, only a handful of surfers trying their luck. We certainly enjoyed Tamarindo more than any other place so far, so missing Nicaragua does have its alternative rewards.

Day 5 - Cyberspaced out in da CR n waves

... Break, it was cool. But then it got a bit weird and sad for all of us..lol...everyone brought down their laptops and we read email, downloaded songs and set up us lowly few who are not on facebook..well now I am a facebook person and thought I would never say this..but its pretty cool. Didn't do a lot of it...but I can see how it can be addictive. Maya got a job offer today and ...

Tourist police....and a new beach!

... active volcano which was followed by a 40 minute wait to see lava flowing down its sides. Due to the clouds we were unable to see the volcano spitting out its contents but would see bursts of fire tumbling down beyond the cloud cover. After natures fantastic display, we went for a short swim at Baldi hot springs. This mega-resort-style money grabber happens to be situated near hot springs. It is in essence ...

I made it to Costa...

... I ask him if he likes being in Costa Rica, he doesn't answer and looks around, probably worried that his boss might hear. I tell him to answer in Tagalog and all he can say is "iba" distant look and sad face iba". He has a family back home, 3 kids and he misses them. San Jose-Tamarindo I ask the locals what the best way is to get to Tamarindo beach and they all say the bus is the cheapest and that's what you should get. So, I listen. First leg of the journey ...

... have seen at any border and they only have one window open. We queue up in the hot sun and get through the system about 45 minutes later. Receipts and passports in hand we head to the Costa Rican border. After a 10 minute walk through the blazing sun we come to a shade tent with a picnic table and a border guard at it. He looks as our passports and tells us to go to the other side of the picnic table. All except Mark. It appears that the Nica border immigration forgot to ...

Leatherbacks or not?

... on cue so just leave and we are down to about 30 an hour and a half later inc several kids sleeping on benches. The radios go off as a turtle is spotted again on the beach. Instead of us all going down there guess what we have to do? All queue up and pay. Frustration is not the word. We then queue and are counted into 2 groups of 15 which takes a lot longer than it should and walk down to the beach. There we see a bit further along a turtle ...

Costa Rican Highlights Part 2

... where we caught our first glimpses of fiery red lava, (Pompei came to mind, for sure) we checked out the hot springs, which were heated by the volcano itself. It was essentially an adult playground with waterfalls, secluded areas, waterslides, a swim-up bar and all the spa amenities one could hope for. Easily a dozen beautifully tiled pools were spread over the lush grounds, and we ran from pool to pool a bit like Goldilocks, seeking the pool that was ...
