... to shut the door.. unusually for me I didnt scream either. This scared Kathleen more and we sat there in shock. I have no idea what it was but we were so big and brave (not) that we ended up driving to the car park we stayed in the night before.. oh dear.
Saturday we had had enough and left Elba.. trying to squeeze onto the first ferry, and missing out and headed to Florence...

Non ero mai stato all'Isola d'Elba.
Di solito sceglievo altre mete del Mediterraneo (Grecia, Tunisia, Marocco, Spagna, Sicilia, Sardegna, ecc.) perchè pensavo fosse poco "calda" e poco "mediterranea".
Invece è stata una bellissima sorpresa.

... we will wait until La Spezia is ready for us; another wasted opportunity. We are in sight of Tellaro, which was the first place I ever stayed on holiday outside of the UK. In the morning, I shall be trying to pick out Villa May above its own private cove. (By definition it is a memorable place: I was last there in 1962!)

... some from them and post them on here anyway. Then they took us to a town called Marino del Campo for a couple hours where there was a beach to play on. THEN we went back, had dinner, and passed out from a busy day. It was a very good weekend, and I can't wait till next weekend when we go to Cinque Terre!! The end of the Elba story is that we missed Mercedes' flight home from Rome to Madrid by 2 minutes, and there wasn't another flight until the same time next day, but she had to get back for work, so she bought a ticket for that afternoon to fly from Milano, and as we had no time to spare at all (it's a 5-6 hour drive) we dashed to the car and flew up the freeway, worried that we might miss this flight too. Fortunately we made it. So where to now? Well, a few weeks ...

... hour away after the Villa. There were amazing views of the island on the drive over and the beach wasn't crowded at all. Fredericka, one of the student life people who is Italian, said that during the summer it's disgustingly crowded and our weekend was the perfect time to go since it's still hot but not full. We buried each other in the sand and played beach soccer and volleyball. And of course swam. I swam way far out again and had a race ...

... we took our backpacks with since we are going to stay in Florence tonight. the bus ride went much quicker than to Rome, but it was a morning of thunderstorms. By the time we arrived in Florence it was nice and sunny. our guide took us to several historical places of interest and gave us much history and back ground. at 3 o'clock several of us went with the guide to ...

... I am tipping you would find it most enjoyable. One more village left to explore tomorrow - Monterosso to the north. One comment of note is that the Internet is making a slow break-through into this area. Only one point at each village seems to be commercially available at 5 Euros per hour and not at highly convenient locations - the railway station. Great Island! It belongs to the Tuscany region and is next to Livorno where you can take a ferry to arrive. We travelled around the island with our teacher and classmates and visited some geological interesting points. We will probably come back... but this remains a mystery...
