Florence- Rome

Our next stop was Florence. We had a tour by a local guide who took us to many monuments, churches, statues and squares. We also went straight into view the statue of David. The que for people trying to get tickets was long. In our free time we shopped at the Gold Corner and the leather shop Perucci. Don got a replacement wallet and I bought a lovely bracelet. ... he was buying 3L. Turned out it was closer to 5L, all for 10€. Opted for the rose - and not a bad drop, either.
As we left, could see the owner heading back to his daybed!

On Friday, walked the 6km into Isola and wandered around town. There didn't appear to be a town piazza, as the few shops and cafes were scattered throughout the town, with no central focus as was usual ...

Into the mountains

... della Sila, had, as its crest, wolves. Fortunately we didn't come across any as we walked the botanical trail, learning about the uses of various plants and trees that grew locally. This area was obviously a haven for bush walkers in the summer months, though at thos point, the holiday makers were still sparse on the ground.

Driving back along the river valley, again viewed Sant Severina. Impressive as ever.

... for a longer beach to walk along.

Around the coast towards Catanzaro we eventually found a long stretch of beach that wasn't enclosed by private enclaves or resorts. Camping sites had obviously survived the downturn, and were prolific at the edge of the sand. While a few people were staying there, all needed attention before the June influx.

Dinner on the verandah watching the sun set with good friends. Not bad! ...
