    Mammola day 2

A travel blog entry by sueesposito on Jun 17, 2014

... some places weren't open on Tuesday afternoon and it reminded us of Filomena saying never travel on a Tuesday. The restaurant Moulin Rouge wasn't open so we went to Le Bottiga de Sapori. It had everything Stocco. The waiter had lived in Canada so he had good English. He sorted my no carne no pesche dilemma and then just kept bringing out dishes for Don to enjoy Stocco in many different ways. It was in oil, a tomato bean mix, thinly sliced, ...

... stared at the strange foreign visitors. We met a local disabled man who saw we needed help and took us to Via secondi Cirilli as we were at primo Cirilli. We would never have found it without the boisterous tour guide. He seemed to know everyone and greeted them as we past. We went through extremely skinny pathways to Lisa's house. The neighbour came out and we explained who we were and she said to come to her sons restaurant a Piazzetta tonight. Our guide wanted to ...

So Don again came to the rescue with his Italian. We had dinner early and ordered no carne or peschie for me. Don had the local signature dish of Stocco fish. We ended up with 8 plates of food. I needed up wrapping 7 fritters in serviettes for lunch the next day. They think that if you are vegetarian you will starve so they overfeed ...

... dinner in Ostuni. 6 of us went by shuttle bus back into town. How different it was where we stopped. There was a busy Piazza in the old part of town. Cato dropped us off and with no directions we tried to find the restaurant. There was a stage set up with music playing as the new Mayor was going to address the crowd. Children were up late, youngies were at the bars drinking, and dogs wandered from restaurant to restaurant. The next day we got the shuttle bus ...

... artefacts set up outside homes. Had a great lunch of pizza fit for 4 men and Don had spaghetti as well as an antipasto. Then through Dons limited Italian I ended up with a lemon cake covered in whipped cream vs lemon gelato. The girl was so convincing that this dessert was not to be missed. As we had loaded up on carbs we decided to try walking the 3kms back up the hill to our hotel. It was fine but the heat was abit much and luckily at 1/3 of the ...
