... cemetery. Nek minit he offered to show us around the commune building. He had his granddaughter with him who seemed fascinated with our accents. He took us into large offices and gave us booklets on various aspects of Mammola. There was a computer in one office but I couldn't help noticing the folders in cupboards dating back to 2006 that in our bureaucracy would have been archived. The desks had piles of paper on them and I couldn't ...

      Mammola day 1

A travel blog entry by sueesposito on Jun 17, 2014

After a good sleep but on a very firm mattress we went to brekkie 8.30am. Antonio had a fruit pastry tart with coffee and I had tea. Again it was humorous to watch the idea of tea with milk being understood. That was our brekkie! Amazing. However after last nights meal we were so full anyway. We planned to head to the mountains in front of our accommodation after a walk around town to find Aunty Lisa's house. We followed our google map up very narrow, steep streets ...

... next day we drove to Isola with clear directions on how to get there. Don found a barber which took 45mins for a cut and at least 5 fellas came in for a chat to the barber while he was there. We got mistaken for German tourists by a well dressed gentleman who directed us to an illy coffee place. It was lovely. I went to the Farmicia by myself to get some allergy tablets and after signing, role playing etc We understood each other. We were the only foreigners in town. When we ...

... so I had to open the car door and reached to get it grhhh! We stopped at Canosa during siesta time. Before we could reach it we had to pay for the use of the road so far. €10 later we got into town. It is very stressful going into towns when you don't know where you are going. A trip including a lunch break needs 1 1/2 hours. The bar we stopped at had heaps of men coming in standing at a bar and having an espresso with aqua. Don ordered lunch mine was ...

      Salerno

A travel blog entry by sueesposito on Jun 15, 2014

... We stopped in Naples which was very populated and ancient. I could nearly see Sophia Loren walking the backstreets of Naples. The train was so quick only 2 hours at 300kms an hour. At Salerno we felt like we were in a foreign country as there we no other tourist and no one spoke English. Don's limited Italian would be getting a workout. I rang the hotel who booked us a taxi. Every time a taxi came Don would go over and ask if it was ours. They ...
