And so it begins. my life as a teacher? day 1

... if she tries to sort all this out now we'll figure it out at noon when she has off. so i called her back and said it wasn't acceptable, i still had a class at 9:30 and i didn't know with whom or where, and made her look it up for me. I wasn't about to skip my first real day of work because someone didn't do her job! fyi she's also the lady who tried to force us into that dark smelly apartment that didn't have internet, and was in sketch town.

So i make ...

quick visit

Just paid a fleeting visit to St Tropez on the way to Avignon (so we thought)... had to be done really.. a quick wander around and a very quick coffee. It was much smaller than I thought. Lots of nice boats but loads of tourists too.... that was about it!

What a nice surprise

So we left St Tropez to head towards Avignon. I wanted to drive along the coast and we found a little road to take us there.. Little alright! It was about 11 or 17km of narrow winding steep roads. The worst part was the cars we occasionally ran into coming the other way and the big drop on the other side!
But it was all worth it. We found all these beautiful little beaches. We stopped at one and ...

Eating Out and Sniffing in Grasse

... from Primary School, such is the exquisite taste of every cup we had. Alison sometimes asked for cappuchino, even after 10.00am, and this was not usually treated with the derision we had expected. But maybe they spat in the cup in the kitchen? Otherwise we drank espresso. Even in motorway cafes the coffee was great. And then... we stopped on one of our walks through the back streets of Venice, somewhere between the Rialto and San Marco, and had ...

Long Long beach

We didnt do much in Cannes except go to the beach. Got there pretty early and were only planning on spending the day and night but then the realisation dawned that it might be the last chance to be at the beach again. SO... we decided to stay another night and have a final day at the beach. We took a walk around the old town ...

Homesick in Southern France

... Prize-winning The Road by Cormac McCarthy about a father and son's post-apocalyptic struggle for survival. A real uplifter. 3) Having had to start fresh and make friends at both the Weizmann and in the army, a part of me felt "lazy" to have to do so again, even though my prior experiences surely would have helped me feel more comfortable doing so. 4) I missed Israel and thought about it often. 5) Perhaps most of all, the Saturday night of our weekend camping trip just so ...

Exploring the city of Nice Day 1

... the answer was a bit obvious. It seemed like from the architecture that the other parts of the city were newer, as in 18th century-up newer, while this part of the city had buildings that dated from the Middle Ages. In this part of the city, the streets were smaller, and narrower; there were a lot of cute, little shops, primarily tourist trap souvenir type shops, but still not too bad. I don't quite remember what exactly I saw in the old city but I ...

Obscure is Right

... two buildings, but I did it anyway. This road is a 300m stretch of original road that is completely covered and appears like a lit up dark underground tunnel. The lack of light gives this road its name, obscure meaning little or no light. The hike up to the top of the town was worth its sweat for the view was gorgeous. The sun on the beach by the lovely little train station was a relaxing change of pace for this busy ...

The Cote D'azure!!

Marcella and I weren't too sure as to what Nice had in store for us. Let me just say that we were astonished at the beauty of Nice, the heart of the French Riviera aka Le Cote d'Azure. Nice was a dazzling array of colorful sites with its shops, restaurants, and street's. In my opinion, this ...
