... relaxing. The view from the top was spectacular and the castle itself amazing. First built in the 11th century, it was fully restored in the early 1900s. After lunch the line of cars and crowds of people magically dispersed and we left to drive to Bergheim. Bergheim is a little, walled, medieval city, and where our accommodation was for the night. ... called the maneater. Sad stuff. From there headed into Colmar, the bigger town of the area. A really beautiful place. Half timbered and stone houses and flowers everywhere. Had a really nice look around, and then spent the night in a really nice hotel, the Turenne. Took a salad down to the town square about 8pm and listened to the live music and watched people. ...

... for miles had a full cop car. Had a leisurely afternoon in Eguisheim, then an Alsacienne meal. R had steak and chips and salad, me choucroute, which is sausages, Kessler chop, sauerkraut, and a 15 mm thick slab of bacon. Heaven. Had to cut short our drive around the Vosges today because of all the security activity, so will try to do a bit more tomorrow. We'll see how the weather holds ...

... and headed back to our accommodation. Tomorrow we will look at the town more and drive around the area a bit. One thing this town is famous for also, is its white storks. They breed here, and there are huge nests on the top of many of the highest buildings. At the moment the chicks are quite big, so easy to see. It's fun to see the commotion when mum and dad get back to the nest with food. 3 huge birds trying to keep their balance in one ...
