... much lighter the buildings were before the accumulation of 1000 years of smoke.

The town was beautifully presented with a large square which had a number of memorials including one to the leader of the Resistance who died in 1945.

Today was going to be a full day, next stop Fougeres, full on medieval history!

... I appreciated it very much. But now I have hit a point where it is impractical because my French level is surpassing the level of the English that most students can speak. To make sure I'm still sharing my English capabilities I have been spending time in the English conversation classes as an aid to speak English with other students and help them improve their skills.
Every weekend my gracious host family has been taking me with them to see sights and places in our region ...

I bought a ticket to Chartres (the man understood me; I didn't understand him) and waited about ten minutes for the platform to show up on the big reader board. There were only four other people in my little section of the train, so at least I didn't have to worry about my suitcase being in anyone's way. ... later back comes Den with the bag. Apparently they thought it was a bomb. They closed down the area. Called the police and then they called the bomb squad. All this happened while we were having lunch. They decided then it wasn't a bomb. Den then had to go to lost property with the man and it cost him 10€. Jen Jen is relieved.
