Our Day in the Country

... area about 5 minutes outside of town that she takes the dogs to. It is a huge farm and there is a road that winds all the way around it. It took about an hour to walk the length of the road. The dogs love it. It was a bit chilly, especially when the wind was blowing. Conrad had to stop and feed some cows. It was fun to play with the dogs.

When we got back to the car, we went to see a waterfall. It was a ...

City in the trees

Of course I needed to visit Luxembourg, hiding away there between France, Germany and Belgium. It is the fifith smallest country in the world. It is very hilly and surrounded by trees. The hostel is down at the bottom of a cliff, yay! The city of course is quite small, but it is surrounded by ruins and forest which makes it quite a unique city in amongst the hustle and crowds of all the other major cities. The people there speak French and their own language, Luxembourgish I suppose.

Luxembourg on Bikes!

... Roman ruins and the churches up close. Trier was very nice and I love the feeling there, the Roman baths were also really cool to see. We also had a great dinner in the main square of town. I had Pepper Steak and spetzlah. It was so good. The seats outside were great and I was able to people watch and really just embrace in the culture. Plus a little wine probe, wine tasting, helped a lot.

Luxembourg City deserves another day

... Extremely erie, yet comforting. As I swung the large wooden door open, it let out a wavering squeal alerting a flock of pigeons up in the rafters. I could hear their flapping wings echo as my eyes adjusted to the lack of lighting. It was amazing.

Entering this church wasn't anything like that. It was old, so that sufficed. When I'm in a church, I like to run my hands across the cold stone columns while thinking about all the heartache that has passed through the place ...

A medieval town called Chartres

Before coming to Paris, I made lists of things that I wanted to do. I make lists for everything, so I made a separate list of the things I wanted to do in Paris and a list of things I wanted to do outside of Paris. On top of the latter list was visiting the Notre Dame Cathedral at Chartres. It was a do-or-die type of goal. I took an AP Art History course in high school with one of my favorite teachers of all time, Mr. Trupe. It just so happens that the course is one of my ...

Rehearsed dinner & ready to do it for real!

... the rehearsal lasted until about 4:15. Seriously!! I've never seen a rehearsal take so long, but it was fine. You will all be getting postcards now that I had time to write them! The bus ride out of the city during rush hour and on a Friday was pretty interesting as well! TWO HOURS later we got to Le Chateau d'Esclimont, which was really beautiful! Dinner was tasty and we had a great table; two other groomsmen and a bridesmaid and ...

July 31 - Back to Paris via Chartres

... just for ice cream" She fantasized about ordering an appetizer, main course and dessert all of ice cream. I spoiled it by telling her her main course could be ice cream but it had to be roast beef and broccoli flavoured. Four floors of ice cream with an ice cream bar. Then the Metro to Trocadero where we watched the Eiffel Tower flash and sparkle like nobody's business. Really ...

... and dark, with four people buried for every cross. There are trees all throughout the grounds, which bare from the winter, really made it much more somber. You could really tell the difference in the character between the two cemeteries. Instead of a triumphal monument glorifying the valorous dead, there was just a single stone cross in the center of the cemetery. After we had seen the cemetery, we all got back on the bus to continue on to Trier, Germany to see the Rom

Our family travelled to Luxembourg for a week for a work conference. Was it just me or was there a bank on every corner? I think the trip was quite expensive for my parents.
Assuming it was because there are so many languages spoken in ...
