... Not exactly the quiet contemplative experience we expected. We found a nice place for lunch. It was in a little lane just to the left of the Cathedral. Their lunch offering was a plate with a cup of onion soup, a piece of quiche, some salad and a small pot of vegetables, washed down with local beer. It was very nice, sitting in the sun. After lunch we walked down to the river and the old part of town. It is very pretty with ...

We drive on to Loches, a medieval city on the River indre. The old city is built on the site of a 6th century monastery, has a 12th century keep, royal lodges, and the 10th century church of St Ours. We climb the cobbled streets to the old city in a light rain, but arrive too late to tour the keep. We are ...

... on the internet, I found the perfect place: Chartres! It was only 96 kms away from Paris. The only thing I knew about Chartres was that it had a formidable cathedral. A new adventure awaited us as we rushed to the train station. We managed to buy the tickets only 5 minutes prior to the journey. There weren't as many trains to Chartres as we thought there would be. If we hadn't bought the 13:06 train, we would have to wait ...
