Temple Road Unawatuna, Sri Lanka, 0914-924-961-
Only a short ride on the train from Ambalangoda, Hikkaduwa is still a very spread out village along the "highway" from Colombo. It was a pretty rough two-lane road shared by cows, pedestrians, cyclists, motorbikes, cars, trucks and busses, all speeding up and down the road, using their horns instead of their brakes. It was on this stretch of tracks that a train got washed away by the tsunami in 2004, killing around 1,000 people. We stayed in Villa Paradise, south of the city center. It is con...
Unawatuna, Sri Lanka emeric.bensaci... underwater camera (which we'll get developed when we get home, but my experience tells me not to expect too much.) At the end of the dive, they brought us around to a surprise. The instructors were pointing in the gloom and we were trying to make out what they were pointing at, and it's so exciting when you recognize that it's a shipwreck! (This was a cargo ship from the 1800's, I think they told us later.) When they ...
Unawatuna, Sri Lanka randfamily... whether keeping them at a hatchery was cruel or beneficial but they did look cute nonetheless. The following morning, we were up at sun rise to face another long and extremely bumpy ride to Uda Walawe National Park. With 76.000 acres of lush vegetation and vast lakes, this park is home to about 400 elephants (yippee!) and 5 or 6 leopards.........oh........you can guess what we saw then! It was interesting to see how different Indian elephants are to ...
Unawatuna, Sri Lanka mikeandmarisha... on the beach and the sea crashes up to the restaurant regularly! Whilst here we have come to the conclusion that we should stay away from posh or remotely decent eateries every time we go to one the food never lives up to expectation.... so in stead we are going to stick with the shacks! Off to Colombo again tomorrow to, hopefully, pick up our china visa, if our applications have been accepted. We have to be up at 5.45am to get the train!
Unawatuna, Sri Lanka limi07... fried fish, seafood fried rice and salad, a meal which I could easily knock up in half an hour at home, and I'm not a restaurant chef who should be used to producing food quickly. However, over an hour after ordering, no food had arrived so we made gentle enquiries of our waitress, who went to the kitchen to check and came out telling us he had just finished cooking and it was coming now. Sure enough, the food did come a couple of minutes later, but it was ...
Una Watuna, Sri Lanka timreis... eating brekkie, lunch and dinner with a few beers thrown in for good measure! Its sooooo hot right now, you can tell that its almost the start of the monsoon season when its so humid and everything closes down. To be honest thats all for now, not really much to tell, but having an amazing time. Unawatuna is a stunning sandy bay, with a little village behind it. The most strenuous ...
