Tuesday 23rd June: Today we arrived at Saint Jean de Luz and we have caught up with Jim and Nicki Jamison. But before I embark on the stories of today I must mention that last night we stayed at another little place called Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains at Port D Albert. This little town is on the coast and we were greeted by friendly staff at this campground who love New Zealand and have sky dived in Tauranga. It was a great little place on the beach with another large ...

The rooms were about half an hour away from being ready so we found a bench nearby to enjoy some snacks that Caroline picked up until they were. This guy was a super cool American surf dude, tanned and blond, but even he could not help me out as the Koala too was full ...

... only English wasn't a problem, it was the start of the holidays too so everywhere was packed. The purchase of our bikes immediately started paying off, that afternoon we rode into town and checked out some street markets, purchased some butcher style chorizo, real Camembert from a cheese deli and some crackers. We are able to save petrol and give the car a rest by leaving it in one spot, plus we are getting some exercise...win ...

Once we'd managed to recover from our epic journey, we set off into the town to explore (and track down some supplies). It was a little cloudy at first but soon the sun began to peek through - as soon as it did it became instantly hotter, a clear indication that we were further south.

The countryside in this part of the world is utterly beautiful, almost as if part of the alpine valleys of France or Northern Italy have been plonked down on the Spanish coast. There ...
