The cool thing about arriving in a new place at night is that when you wake up you get to see it in a whole new light. This Mediterranean fishing port on the Istrian coast is even more charming by day. After a much needed leisurely start to the day we wandered down the polished cobbled stone streets in search of bikes. For 50 kuna (about 10 New Zealand dollars) each you can hire a bike for 5 hours. So that's what we did. The Istrian peninsula ...

... point from Italy. So we bid farewell to ham products three times a day as our slow ferry lived up to its billing with a chug out into the Adriatic Sea. ... for some sort of orchestra concert while we were there. We hopped on a tour bus that drove us around the city for about 90 minutes but it wasn't the best tour as it blew past everything that looked interesting . After the tour we ended up walking to the stuff we drove by. Many roman walls, arches and gates still stand today with throngs of people walking past through and under them just as the Romans a couple thousand years ago... Can't imagine the liability insurance ...

... a beer. Talked to them for quite awhile about the goods and bads of living in Croatia. They are not fans of the high taxes and easy living for the unemployed. However there is almost zero crime here... Doors are not looked much, the murder rate countrywide last year was 4 ...yes 4. We feel totally safe walking around... Even is Zagreb it was easy going. Despite some of the challenges of living here they all seem to love it...very interesting conversation ...
