We left Rome very uneventfully and after getting on the circle road we went off north for about an hour and a half towards Perugia. I got separated from 2 girls from my hostel quite early on, so I just spent the majority of the day alone, wandering about Piazza San Marco- San Marco square, observing those that braved the weather and came in costumes, and then ventured further afield. Much though we like visiting royal palaces, we have seen so many now that we had decided just to walk the streets of Venice and soak in the atmosphere. It was such a beautiful sunny day we did not want to spend it inside a building, so we decided to go up the Bell Tower instead!

After our short ride on the fast train from Rome to Venice (top speed of 245 km/hr on our 3.5 hour ride), we arrived at around 5:30pm. Although we were only about a 1/2 mile from the hotel, it took us about an hour to wind our way to the beautiful old hotel.
