Check out at 11 and set off for San Simeon, Rich's choice for tonight's
stop half way down the coast. Lots more waves and coastal things along
the drive, probably the least exciting part of the pacific highway.
Near San Simeon we find somewhere with lots and lots of MASSIVE
elephant seals, mainly sleeping on the shore making Rich-like noises
and a few fighting in ...

Hwy. 1 from Morro to Big Sur...Picture heaven.

... Rock. We were also lucky enough to see the Peregrine Falcons, just as we were getting ready to leave.
We wandered up Main Street to Morro State Park and the Blue Heron bird sanctuary. This is a protected stand of eucalyptus where egrets and herons (both blue and night) nest. As it was not nesting season, we only spied a couple of the blues and one lonely egret. The walk is easy and not too long, which makes a nice chance to get ...

Sanity on the road to Morro Bay

... as the trees were turning colors.
The GPS took us up Highway 101 and we took a lunch break next to the ocean, just below Rincon. We made sandwiches and watched the surfers riding the waves. Even saw some waveboarders. For the beginning of November, the weather is great. I was in a t-shirt and shorts all day. We continued up, past the Madonna Inn, home of the infamous men's bathroom. Worth a stop if you have not ...

Monterey, Big Sur and Cambria

... had given us a voucher for a free meal at a posh restaurant called Madeline's. The food was very good and the chef came out and spoke to us for a while. A nice way to end our visit to Cambria. We returned back to the house to pack up, so we would be ready to leave early in the morning for the Santa Barbara mountains. We had booked to spend the next few nights staying in a Yurt on an eco-resort, we were so excited and more than ready for a bit of adventure....!

... us through tomorrow too. Remember Taffys girls? The other stops we took were to see wildlife. We've seen deer on golf courses, squirrels that lived in rocks but were that tame they'd eat out your hand and seals at Monterey. Close to where we are staying there and literally thousands of Elephant Seals, took a few pics of them too. We can even see some just up the beach from here so may take a stroll up in the morning and see how close we ...

... br>left and right. The town of Solvang is a Danish culture community with
many shops, bakeries, and art galleris. The town's buildings are built
in the design which is set to remind you of Denmark. We visited one of
the bakeries here and sampled some of their delicious pastries and did
some shopping. We then headed on to Santa Barbara and walked along the
ocean and pier, Santa Barbara is a very pretty location.

We "survived" California Highway 1

... cougars already, but we had been unaware of how threatened we'd feel while walking through marked rock slide areas. Louis would often say, "Let's pick up the pace through here." Although we knew that the biggest risk is during the period of heavy rain, which can loosen whole hillsides and wipe out large sections of the highway in a flash. In fact that had happened shortly before we embarked on this part of the journey. We prayed for no earthquakes or rains. Louis pointed out ...

... before boarding their planes to wherever. I curled myself up against the window as we cruised through Malibu and tuned out the obnoxious phone people and watched schools of dolphins dancing in the morning sun. After arriving in smoggy LA I knew that it was back to reality as I waited for the shuttle to Long Beach only to find out that it wasn't coming and I had a half hour to get to the airport. So I ran to the taxi stand and told the Pakistani driver that ...
