Socialized Medicine Ain't Cheap

... the Zurich train schedule proved a total bore), I realized I did have my Franklin Language Translator with me. So I grabbed a piece of paper and started translating a little of my medical history- drug allergies, symptoms, etc. That took up about 15 minutes or so.

While I was waiting, I tried to guess as to what the other patient's ailments were. One guy had done something to his finger. I don't know what. He ...

Jour 1

J'adore Lausanne. Nous sommes all ...

Montreux & Vevey

When we had first organised our trip, we had looked at getting a Swiss Pass along with our Eurail Pass but had been told it wasn't worth us getting. After working out what we wanted to do and talking to the information people at the train station, we decided to get a 4 day Swiss Pass- with this, we got a free family card which allowed the kids to basically travel free. This made it totally worthwhile for us.

We decided to travel to Montreux by train which was a ...

Turned up in Lausanne Swizerland after some confusion and missplanning. We intended to travel from Venice to Monaco then Barcelona then Paris but money was running out fast, so what better idea than to come to Swizerland and Lake Geneva one of the most pricey countries in Europe, so as a result we could only spend one day here on our low student budget. When we arrived at the station we changed some mone and entered the Tourist ...

... the hills.
Anyway, I came back and had some dinner and now I need to get a little work done. I have my last class covered for tomorrow so I can leave at 11:35 to go meet Ed at the airport. I should get to the airport at 2:04 and his flight is supposed to land at 2:25. I'm very excited to see him! This weekend, I think we are going to leave on Thursday to go to Gstaad for the weekend- it's supposed to be very nice and have some great hiking. I can't wait!

The Swiss Riviera

... took me three trips to actually purchase a bus pass as I needed my passport, which I didn't have with me the first time, and a photo which I didn't have with me the first two times.) So this time I packed my passport, extra photos and I think every other piece of ID I had. I got my ticket in one try!!! (but note: I did need all those things). After a bit of a wait at the station, I was finally on ...

Montreux Jazz Fest

... and vendors at the festival, but it was still quite small in comparison to other music festivals I've been to. Also, the Swiss don't seem to like loud music - the music was playing quietly in the background. After walking around for a bit, we found a music stage. We sat and listened to a school jazz band from Utah (they were pretty good). After that, we got some kebobs (they are cheap and good) and went to ...

... the lakefront and listened to an amateur orchestra (at least, I hope they were - their playing wasn't "tight"). I walked around the shops and then along the waterfront, back to Territet (where the hostel is located). I probably should have taken it easy and rode the train back, but it was still early in the afternoon, and I had nothing else to do. Plus, it's a great area for walking. Along the way, I scoped out a few restaurants - all very ...

... clean spacious bus to the local hostel. We sat in the lobby (joined for a while by a French Canadian guy to whom we both took a vague but instinctive dislike) for just over an hour before the reception desk opened, and then stood for another half hour waiting while the slightly-too-relaxed-guy-in-a-Hawaiian- shirt behind the counter gradually waded through the checking in of 3 other people ...
