The last two days were spent hiking through the country that makes up the Great War Museum, which includes the mountains and paths where most of the fighting took place in WW1. We started out yesterday hiking from the Albergo Falzarego, to the Refugio Averau. It was raining and cold and we started out with lots of clothes and rain gear. As we climbed higher up the paths, it began to brighten. However, when we got to the Refugio Averau, it started to rain again and ...

... are endangered in Britain. They are known to live at elevations of up to 8,000 metres in the Himalayas. Once we got down from our summit, we all carried on around the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. We had to go way down and then a long climb back up. When we arrived back at the Rigugio Auronzo, our driver Raphael was there and took us back to Cortina. We had a nice dinner at the restaurant - pasta with tomato sauce and zucchini, roast beef and potatoes, and a nutty flavoured ice cream for ...

... Val Gherdëina in South Tyrol and Canazei in the Fascia Valley in Trentino. Then we travelled east over Passo Pordoi to reach Arabba. We stopped there for some refreshments. From there it was a short journey north over Passo Campolongo back to Corvara. In winter, this pass can be crossed on skis, but today we luxuriated in the warm 24 degree sunshine. We plan to have a relaxing rest of the day and an early night because tomorrow brings a long day of ...

This morning we wandered around the streets of Lienz - a medieval town in the Austrian state of Tyrol. We saw buildings dating from the 1200's. We then took the bike up to the Großglockner Alpine Pass in Austria. The weather was fine and sunny until we reached Franz-Josef Höhe where it cooled down to 3.4 degrees C, and once we reached the pass itself, it was 0.9 degrees C. There was fog ...

... many impressive mountains, an incredible canyon/waterfall, and the usual complement of beautiful alpine flowers.
Upon our return to the hotel and a check of the weather forecast for tomorrow (rain), we set out into the village for some serious shopping - Bob for a rain jacket and me for a warm shirt. We were both successful, so we're now kitted out for whatever tomorrow holds.
Had an awesome dinner of lasagne, followed by curried turkey and rice, and some ...
