Hey All Well, after a 6hr ferry ride, 9 hr bus ride and a 2 hr flight we finally arrived in Luang Prabang. Flying into Loas was amazing, the mountains are spectacular and the Mekong River is massive. We got into town and were amazed at the arcutecture of the buildings surrounding us, quaint little french town with the Asian touch, a sight that can't be missed. We checked into our $15 guest house, which had a balcony so we could watch the world go by. Loas coffee is also great after drinking t...
Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep chris.sandra08Decided to take the plane to Luang Prabang, Laos instead of the usual 2-3 day bus/boat ride. It was only later that we heard that the guidebooks strongly urge people NOT to fly Laos Airlines based on their safety record. The benefit was we flew through the Visa line at the airport and even got 15 more days added to our stay (30 days in Total). We got a good deal for a couple of nights at the Villa Santi hotel just outside of Luang Prabang which is accessed by bumpy roads and passing elephants...
Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep mandeOur first night in LP, we ate at L'Elephant, a nice French restaurant that was recommended to us by Meredith from Chiang Mai. Meg got the wild boar and I tried their laotian sampler of about 7 dishes. Delicious but expensive! Went to the garden of the Royal Palace and sipped fresh coconut juice. Tried to go to the palace itself, but it was closed. We hired a driver who took us all around the city and to a small stupa across the river and up a hill a bit, so we could get a good view of Luang P...
Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep meg82skylarkThe cheapest way to get to Laos from Thailand is by boat, only this takes three days and with us being stuck for time we took the easy option, to fly there. Laos airline is not re-nound for its safety (although we didn't know that till after we booked) and the plane was small so it wasn't the best flight we've taken. We were both relieved to land in one piece. The visa issuing at the airport was a bit crazy, it took quite awhile to sort out but eventually we got out the airport and took a tax...

Off the plane and into a Laos taxi, basically a small van with seats in the back, we expected to be driven to a guesthouse and persuaded to stay there so the driver could get commission but he just dropped us off in the middle of town with no hassle, which was a refreshing change from Vietnam. We found a nice little guesthouse for 50,000 Kip which is $6 about 4GBPish (they never have pound symbols on the keyboards!), so cheap, clean and with free tea and ...

Somewhere In The Wild, Louangphrabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep blummo... commodity. Every time someone who had a seat got up, a local would try to sit where that person was sitting. It was very important that you had something on your seat so that no one would sit there.
During the festival, two girls were dressed in traditional Lao clothing (which is usually only worn on the New Years and during special events) were honored and were able to ride in the front of the boats. Boats raced down the river until ...
... The vegetation around it was really dense and at night time looked a bit scary.
After 10 minutes and no luck I took it upon myself to get the ball. I climbed down some bamboo to the creek bed and walked around the side of a building. I could see the ball, but it was going to take some fancy footwork to get there. I had to grab on to this building with my right hand and use the bamboo trees on the left side for leverage. There were some downed bamboo and sticks ...
... 1300. If only the driver of the mini-van,the one I came in, could trust the tourist to deliver on his promise. It didn’t look like he could as he held out for the money immediately. The tourist could only empty out his pockets demonstrating his current lack of funds.
Back in Luang Prabang I needed to replenish my funds. They were running dangerously low with only about 50,000 LAK left. I made a beeline for the ATM only to be denied. It was down. As was the 2nd ATM in town ...
... not in the know, these are very very annoying fake-tanned girls who are usually mosquito bite ridden because they can't stand the smell of repellent, fake chanel bags and ridiculous makeup that melts in the sun. I sound slightly aggressive merely because they were the most irritating people to share a 5 hour bus ride with. Had to put up with very off-key renditions of annie, constant whinging and **** noises played on their phone...grrr not a happy jess. But anyways, the bus itself ...
