... the mountains again. Quite a show.

After lunch we pushed on to Verona where we had front row seats to watch a production of Carmen in the outdoor Roman amphitheatre. The location was fabulous and it was so nice to see the old ruin being put to such a beautiful use unlike the roman amphitheatre in Rome. We had dinner beforehand in the square opposite the amphitheatre and the weather was warm and balmy (not raining here thank goodness). The front row ...

... for 2 hours for lunch and not much else. We stopped for lunch at a cafe that had great views, good cheap food and cold beer and waited for the next ferry to take us to Villa Carlotta.

The next stop is Bellamo just a few KM's down the line and the Poms had moved to another carriage in shame. That leaves us and the all American young couple. We have no trouble getting the door open and get off. We seek options on how to get back to Varenna from the station attendant. Take the next train going back, no it ...

... train, which took us to Milan. We had First Class seats, and this time we were in a cabin with six seats. Fortunately, we were the only two in there, so we had peace and quiet and even managed a little nap. We had brought our lunch from a picnic place in Vernazza, as it was around 2pm when we arrived in Milan. We quickly bought tickets and changed trains for the 2.20pm to Varenna. This train was packed to capacity and it took us a while to find a seat (they're ...
