... After an hour of sailing and sitting in the sun, sinking a few cold ales things relaxed as we stopped for a swim. By the night we had all downed a 'few' more cold ones and were all getting on as though we alll knew each other really well. We of course had to cross that mountain to get to the other side, but it was such a relief to be out of the wind that we didn't mind too much. ... a pub - but food was all a bit samey and a bit pricey - most tourists seemed quite old. The first day we were quite tired so didnt do much, and the Marco Polo tower was closed. In the evening we went to some bars near the bus station as they seemed a bit more atmospheric to watch the football, but we were still a bit ill so bed relatively early. Once again we were woken by the sound of the engine and the diesel fumes!! Of we headed toward Korcula - this was the birth place of Marco Polo. It wasn't an easy introduction to Croatia... We arrived in Pula from Ljublana, Slovenia mid-day, tired from a long train ride, and home sick from the wonderful times with family in Slovenia. ... so far, to forget sightseeing, find a deck chair and enjoy the sun and sea - it is a hard life when the biggest decision of the day, is which beach to go to! The funny thing about Croatia is that private accommodation is the thing to do, so we have truly been getting to know the locals, generally staying with people well into the twilight of their lives who happen to have a spare room and are keen for some extra cash - lets just say it has been interesting at times ...
