... buy anything as we didn't really need anything apart from water, so we each bought a huge bottle of water making a total of 49cents which I personally thought was so cheap. Once we looked around a bit more, we headed back on the enormous walk back into the central town. From there we went to the train station, hoped on a train and went back to Venice. ... all packed full of people. Ang gave each bus barge a prolonged wave as it came into the station to see what response she'd get - very little. We saw a barge carrying a large crane, and a man on a Police boat blowing a referee's whistle at water taxis. We don't know why, but one taxi driver took great exception to it and was yelling abuse at the Police and some around him. There is so much traffic on the grand canal that thereafter is always awash/agitated and ...

... we had prepurchased water taxi tickets and traveled Venetian-style through the canals to the St Mark's Square pier. Hotel Albergo Cavalletto, located just off the square, was fairly easy to find. Our rooms were ready and we headed up to unpack and rest before Dan and Ruth were to arrive that afternoon.

... to the clock we still had 5 minutes. Still the feeling of panic is hard to resist and with the guardsman looking all for waiving the train onwards we worried. Not another change to our plans. The lift bringing up Jo and the remaining cases seemed forever to get to platform 6. Karen was standing at the lift entrance willing it to come to the platform level. Sure enough it did, we got to our carriage and the train did not leave as imminently as we had thought. ...
