We can hardly see the top of the cathedral. Inside we admire the very modern-looking depictions of the Virgin Mary, who seems to have had her hair done by the salon just down the road.

... we met yesterday on the tour are also there taking a flight to Rio. We have a two-hour layover at Congonhas Airport, which seems to us to be the busiest airport in the world. Announcements go on non-stop, until you want to put ear plugs in.

We arrive in Porto Alegre at 10:15pm, pick up our rental car, a tiny Fiat and check into our hotel. We’ll be off early tomorrow to the Serra Gaścha and Nova ...

Boarded the bus after breakfast @ 8.30 & headed to the airport to catch our flight to Rio de Janeiro. Landed in Rio to a balmy 32 degrees, wow what a contrast ... Transferred to our hotel in Copacabana, the Windsor Excelsior - right across the street from the beach, then our tour manager took us on an impromptu bike ...

... after an excessive breakfast – would much rather pay less and just have some good croissants & coffee, but forced down a toasted sarnie, 2 meringues, a macaroon and some melon before the 10.15 bus back to Porto Alegre,

Back there by lunchtime to find the tourist office shut so faffed around trying to extract bus info I could understand from the 2 available operators. By then, ...
