The Road to Tikal
Not much to report today. We left early and spent the day in transit across Guatemala on route to Tikal which was approximately 500km away. We stopped in Rio Dulce, which was quite nice. This scenic river flows to the Caribbean. We arrived at Villa Maya at around 6:30 pm... Tomorrow we visit Tikal.

Tired from our overnight bus, we were pretty knackered when we got to antigua so we opted on a lazy day, swimming pool, whirlpool, sunbathing and all. It was wonderful! Antigua is pretty posh, there are little cute cafes all over the place. The centre has a park which is all lit up for the ...
Itchy and Scratchy
... aside, we spent a leisurely afternoon in the markets on the other side of the bridge in Santa Elena (that’s where all the people were!) where we bought a giant bag of toasted tortillas and avocados which we ate while watching the sunset from the hostels roof top patio. I also ran into my Spanish school friend Matthias and had a drink with him lakeside, to the slightly unsettling sight of army trucks doing laps with soldiers in the back whose guns were right at our head height. ...
