Chambery has a medieval castle which housed the dukes and counts of Savoy, and it is linked to a chapel which was built to house the Shroud of Turin (lots of money went into housing that shroud!!). Unfortunately the castle was shut when we arrived so all we got to see was the formidable steep wall facing the town. Not to be deterred by the rain or the heavy traffic we headed on to Evian. It is right on the lakes edge and we enjoyed a stroll through the old village before heading home to pack.

... our special parking spot to the village of Venosc which wasn't very far but scenic all along a fast flowing river. The village we had of course visited before. The bike riding has been absolutely 100% fantastic and it will be a truly treasured memory. Souvenir hunting in Bourg d'Oisans and after that up to Alpe d'Huez to return the bikes to Ollie. Bought a jersey each there and then back ...
