After a rather fitfull nights sleep, I decided to spend the very early morning out taking photos of Auckland at dawn. It was nice to be in a park with hundreds of personal trainers and their victims, all being punished in the dark by angry sounding fitness gods! Once the sun was up I headed into the Auckland museum. Interesting, but a bit limited in size when you compare it to the V&A or Nat History for example. And weird!! Ground floor, proper Maori exhibits. ...

We then went to 90 Mile Beach and had a paddle in the sea which was really nice :-) and we finished off the day with fish and chips :-) In the evening me and Adam teamed up with our Dutch roommates to play the hostel quiz which we won! $100 behind the bar for some drinks and shots, and a bit of a boogie. Fun night :-)

So, after about six weeks of being on holiday, I think we'd all agree that Lizzy and I deserved a well-earned break. Therefore, we headed north to the beachy town of Paihia. We had a hostel that was two minutes' walk from the beach, but if that was too much there was also a pool right there.

While we were here we did what seems to be an obligatory activity for all tourists, we went on a boat tour. We were guaranteed dolphins and it was amazing to see them but as ...

... was made of gravel and rock that led to the forest headquarters where there is a campground area with bathrooms, a shower (no hot water), and plenty of sites to camp. We set up our tents, ate dinner, and talked about our plans for the next few days between the five of us. We have about a 20 km hike tomorrow to Kerikeri that will be mostly through rolling hills and pastures. 2/14/14 Kyle and I made our first trail mistake today. A poorly labeled intersection ...
