We toasted the birthday boy "Chin chin" with Proscetto and drank red wine with our meal. Some had a Venezuelan rum (neat) to finish off with. It was a very pleasant evening and the family made me feel very welcome. Grazie mille.

... us determined to go to Montepulciano to see the Mate vineyard and possibly meet the Ferenc family. On our way through the town we saw what Ferenc Mate called the three-wheeler Ape. These mini trucks are common in the area and. He says it is more like a mechanized vest - it's so tiny you don't really enter it as much as you put it on. I had to take a picture.

We have also been able to spend time with friends and relatives , including a visit from dear cousin Martin who flew in from London on Monday and will leave today (Weds). He was met at the airport by us and our friend Mario and then whisked off to Mario's incredible stone farm house for a visit with him and his wife Angela, who made wonderful bean soup for us.

Amazing place. The justification is "you only live once!" I had a very relaxing day. Spent a couple hours at pool. Tennis anyone? It's hard enough trying to find anyone to play with in the states, let alone Italy! And, they don't have a tennis court. Also got a MISERABLe cold yesterday and it blew up today. I guess there are a lot of germs landing on all the trains, etc. we are using. More tomorrow. Go ...
