Today we left our hotel at a more reasonable hour and drove through the countryside to Carmignano and arrived at the Capezzana Wine Estate. It is a noble wine estate known for its red wine and vin santo, the sweet dessert wine of Italy. The family-owned estate and winery is still run by several members of the Bonacossi Family. The grandmother Lissa (age 91) lives in the villa on the property, and her sons and daughters have various roles ...

Given it was a Monday and very little museum wise was open in Florence we opted for a day trip to Siena. As nice as it was in hindsight I probably would have preferred to just wander around Florence and sit and soak it all up. ... we were able to see the Duchess's rose garden. I thought that was just a historic name given to the garden after a historical duchess who must have lived there, but NO. Because Manuele then went on to say "Oh look, the Duchess is right over there!" And we all turned and saw a very kind lady who waved at us, sitting on a bench with a friend and a dog. And then we went into her rose garden and I went crazy taking close-ups of flowers.

... Larry did not eat the pâté, but he did try one bite, for which we rewarded him with extra vino! Next came a cold meat tray with pecorino and a Rosemary Foccacia...it deserves to be in caps...it was that good! Next, and some time later, we had a huge meatball in sauce and gnudi (a cheese and spinach ravioli without its jacket) we were sharing all dishes...and couldn't make decisions on what to leave ...
