Today we left our hotel at a more reasonable hour and drove through the countryside to Carmignano and arrived at the Capezzana Wine Estate. It is a noble wine estate known for its red wine and vin santo, the sweet dessert wine of Italy. The family-owned estate and winery is still run by several members of the Bonacossi Family. The grandmother Lissa (age 91) lives in the villa on the property, and her sons and daughters have various roles ...

Did I say slow down a bit? We went to the Uffizi Gallery when they opened this morning late due to the threat of a strike. We saw Venus there from a distance in one direction from a doorway. She is in a room with other statues but no one can enter the room. Lots of paintings and also a beautiful view of the famous bridge over the Arno river. The museums make you get reservation vouchers way in advance to ...

And then we went into her rose garden and I went crazy taking close-ups of flowers.

... the form spring to life from the marble is truly a gift to witness. It is not just tourists that are here to enjoy the art. On two occasions I saw fathers with their young sons and they were obviously explaining finer points of the art to young boys that were equally excited about what they were seeing, as they say here molto bene!

      Firenze Vecchio (Old Florence)

Summer mornings in Florence are beautiful. It's too early for the tourist groups to be organized, so it's just locals and us this morning. We ate breakfast at a little place a few streets away, and on the way passed a Boticelli fresco that was on the side of a random building, unlabeled but signed (forgot to take a picture, sadly). All the croissants are honey-glazed here, which is a bit strange.

      After breakfast we walked ...
