    Second Day in Florence

My second day in Florence was a pretty killer day. I woke up to a stinging on my wrist, which I ignored after itching it a little. Then, I got ready for the day. We met in the breakfast room, and the breakfast room had a great variety of breakfast foods. It was great. We then went and saw the leaning tower of Pisa. It was cool and I got a charm for my bracelet, and ...

I had a Thanksgiving quite unlike any other I've experienced to date. Once again, our program director Jodie's talents were demonstrated in full capacity by yet another flawlessly executed and organized day trip. This time, we got to bring our host families along, so Silvia came! We all got on a chartered bus to go tour Poggia a Caiano, a house whose construction was begun by Lorenzo (The Magnificent) de' Medici. The architect was Giuliano da San Gallo, whose ...

Today I had my first studio class. We had to listen to my professor talk for 3 hours. Luckily he didn't make us stay for the full 5 hours. After class my roommate and I got lunch at our favorite cafe accross the street. They have the freshest sandwiches I've ever had. They only ever have 1 or 2 of each kind prepared and they have new kin ds every day. Today I got ham and cheese on a crossaint. They even warm the sandwich up for you and then ...

... Travel is neat because there seem to be phases to it, and sometimes people have the same phases but sometimes they're different. In the beginning, we were getting used to being together 24/7. I was getting used to doing lots of work to arrange trains and key pick ups and meals and activities. I would say I was most crabby. :). Listening to other travellers, I am reminded that while travel is great, people do seem to argue over directions and ...

    Florence Duomo, Medici Chapel etc

... in shades of greens and blues (no photos allowed again, but I have attached one from a book). The New Sacristy is breathtaking. It is a small room built on Pope Leo X de' Medici's orders for the remains of his Father Lorenzo, and his Uncle Guiliano (even though it was another Medici Pope, Clement VII who actually got the work started!). Michelangelo worked on the chapel for 14 years, and still didn't get it finished! But the statues and the ...
