... They both quizzed me about my luggage. Unfortunately they were doing so in Italian and I had no idea what the issue was. Anyway we loaded my bags and then he motioned to me, indicated the bags and wrote 65 on a notepad. Now all the taxis have the fare to Fiumicino painted on their door and it says 48. ... We had had a super holiday in the area, Tom learned how to swim and Charlie made the boys bows and arrows and we went 'bear' hunting in the woods. Fortunately we did not meet any bears or boars. Every morning we went somewhere to see the historic sights and in the afternoon we did something for the children. We actually limited ourselves to looking at the outsides of places so now the insides of the buildings of Florence this time have been completely new to us.

... longs story short....I got ahold of the the visa office in Ottawa... nice folks and they said I needed to get a hold of the Consulate in Rome.

This is where having a local sim card soooooooooo rocks. Ended up talking to the gal in charge and seems no getting around it....I needed to be in Rome the next day for a visit to the embassy......the gal said no worries we will be here for you.

I apologized to Mike a few times if I recall ...
